    Houston Rockets
Bill Worrell, Clyde Drexler, Matt Bullard
Worrell's a real gem, able to keep a bemused tone and fresh outlook throughout Rockets games that are alternately boring and chaotic. He fashioned his delivery through years of working alongside the, um, "excitable" Calvin Murphy -- and, to a lesser extent, the Molly Ivins-ish stylings of Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor. Worrell's current partners include the snooze-worthy Drexler at home and the moderately less somnambulant Bullard on the road.

how could you not love those two? they had the most PERFECT give and take this side of gene and jim...you only build that with years of working together...

b- seems about right, bc bullard doesnt really add much (i LOVE the guy but i still dont see how he came in 2nd on dream job) and we all know how the bbs feels about clyde

i thank god bill is off the astros games, but youre not gonna find a better play-by-play guy for basketball

I think Worrell is a great commentator.. but he needs somebody who can actually talk (not Clyde nor Bullard).. I really liked Van Chancellor last year.. he made games really interesting and he is a great coach.. I wish we could get him in the Rockets coaching staff... plus his accent is hilarious.. :D

no I am no joking..I thought he was cool.. he made good comments and valid points (it's right that he always gave complements to JVG, but that's ok) .. I think he is a great coach with great experience because he always knew what our team or the other team going to do the next play (high pick &roll with T-mac and Yao :D )

Yea some of those rankings are a little questionable. But hey hopefully Dwyer will hurry up and put up a post and defend himself.

Hubie Brown and Doug Collins, preferably Hubie, are my favorites. I like hearing guys that don't treat the fan like an idiot and actually break down the game.

This is one thing I like a lot more about some of the college basketball analysts. They actually take time to point out what is going on and break down the different offenses and defenses. I've learned so much more about basic basketball and fundamentals from the college guys then I could ever learn from pro broadcasters who generally focus too much time on schtick, repeating the obvious, or kissing some player's ass.

Not all college broadcasters fit this description, by a long shot. If you watched the championship game you know what I mean; the CBS reporters sucked Florida (and Joakim Noah) dick very hard. And I don't even watch any broadcast with Dickie V any more; in my opinion he's even worse than Bill Walton. At least Bill Walton has nice things to say about Yao now that Yao is amazing.

I dont like Dick Vitale at all anymore either. But when watching some of the earlier games with random teams with unknown offenses, I really think some of those guys are great. Clark Kellogg and Jay Bilas (although he can get annoying too sometimes) do a good job of breaking things down and analyzing stuff fairly well. Sure cheerleading is inevitable regardless of who's doing the game but at least some guys inject some basketball knowledge into the game. Most of the national college guys are jokes. Vitale, Packer, Phelps, etc.. I could care less for. But some of them are really a pleasure to listen to.

Did you never see a Walton broadcast early in Yao's career? He has been Yao's #1 fan for a long time, even talking about stuff that has nothing to do with basketball. Walton thinks Yao is like Buddha, Jesus, and Jerry Garcia all rolled into one.

van chancellor was really good as far as providing insight and being more than bill's parrot. you just have to get past his voice. i think jon barry can be even better and less annoying.

Bill Walton does not bother me-actually pretty funny in a bizarre way.

The two that I cannot take are Tom Tolbert and Steve "Snapper" Jones. Tolbert provides no analysis, no humor, no color, no fun. Tom Tolbert brings nothing to the broadcast.

Collins and Hubie Brown break a game donw very well-a joy.

Bill Walton is the biggest idiot in basketball I've ever seen ... that fool cant do anything.. he says stupid things that dont make sense and he is not even funny... he makes me sick of basketball when he starts talking this bull****... I think we have a great commentating crue because of Bill Worrell .... the worst commentators are : Bill WAlton, Clyde D (he was my favorite player after Hakeem,, he played the game really well, but he cant talk worth a crap, and the commentators that suck the most are the NBA TV commentators... I dont know what's wrong with them, it seems that they drink during the game or something..they have a very negative way of talking and they make the game so boring and stupid... especially when the game is close, they bring no excitement.. I dont like Marv but he is better than those NBA TV guys.. at least Marv makes it a little exciting (here is mcgrady, no time-outs remaining, Mcgrady for the win,,,,,,,,,,,,,Yeeeees...) well, not that exciting .. but y'all should've seen the Paul Pierce game on NBA TV .. he had 6 secs and he is down by one.. they were like : "Pierce has the ball, 3 secs remaining, he shot it, he scores, Boston won... ZZZZZZZ)..... :D

    A+ Bill Walton
Bill's a lightning rod, to be sure, but he also may be the most subversive talent the tube has to offer. Where others see a fawning sellout, I see an ardent fan who can't believe he's allowed to wax and preen on The Man's dime. Where others see a blustery hyperbole machine, I recognize a guy who loves to toy with the absurdities behind throwing huge gobs of money and focused klieg lights at men in short pants. I think Walton is one of the funniest guys on TV, I think he knows exactly what he's doing, and I know the proceeding paragraph will probably result in a brick being thrown through my living room window.

i love it....walton is great...i love it when he baits snapper into arguments.

You guys probably don't see too many other play-by-play guys if you think Worrell sucks.

Molly Ivins-ish? That may be the strangest comparison I've ever read.

For those who aren't familiar Ivins, was the one who dubbed W "Shrub" when it was rumored he was running for governor. Has Van ever been clever? Ever?
