CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Free agent David Carr traveled to North Carolina on Tuesday to visit with a Panthers team in need of a backup quarterback. Carr, the No. 1 overall pick by expansion Houston in the 2002 draft, was released by the Texans last month. His agent, Mike Sullivan, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment. Carolina general manager Marty Hurney does not comment on free-agent visits. Carr completed 60 percent of his passes with the Texans, but threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times in five seasons. Some believe Carr could flourish behind a better offensive line. Carr is also expected to visit Seattle this week. The Panthers are looking for a backup behind Jake Delhomme after releasing Chris Weinke last month. The Panthers have also shown interest in former Miami quarterback Joey Harrington. The Panthers, who have been quiet during the free agency period, are about $9 million under the salary cap. Haha...I even looked for it in that thread! DOn't know how I missed it. I was even about to post this in there!
Starter to backup happens. Harrington. Ramsey. Culpepper (sorta). Brunell. Jeff Garcia a couple of years ago. Not all that unusual..
Benign is right. I won't go down the VY track, because that's done. But a year after a huge extension to be searching for a backup job somewhere is crazy. I don't know if it's unprecedented, but it's certainly rare.
Hey DD. Not sure if you've heard the exciting news coming out of Sweden this morning. After decades of research by teams of over a dozen scientists a piece, an amazing discovery has been found. Really mind-blowing, breathtaking stuff. Read about it here: www.wateriswet.com
No kidding. I heard them talking about the workouts the team is having now this morning on the radio. For the first time EVER, there wasn't a David Carr soundbite included in the report.
Last night the NFL network was showing some film of a set of rookies from 2002. Mike Williams (the Bills OL fourth pick, 1st round..."Williams is considered by some to be the biggest bust of GM Tom Donahoe's tenure."), David Carr, Joey Harrington, Jeff Hatch (not in the league anymore, I don't think), Josh Robinson (not in the league) and Jeremy Shockey.
I know right. What new information did they find out about Carr this past season? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! He was the same QB he has been since day 1. Why the extension then? This just goes to show you how dumb the Texans management was; hopefully not anymore. The Texans essentially gave a gigantic contract extension to a back QB. Dumbest personnel move EVER
Who cares now, we got our man. A traditional pocket passer and a real NFL caliber starting RB. DC and DW are gone gone gone.
But, but, but, signing Carr was a MISTAKE! It was a mistake!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!! What do you have to say about that?????? Huh????? Huh?!?!?!? It was a mistake!!!!!!!!!!111
Of course it was but it's gonna work out in the long run, last year we drafted very well and this offseason we landed a guy that IMO can get us to a super bowl.
They drafted really, really well. Demeco Ryans is one of the top two or three players in the entire 2006 draft. We still don't know how good Mario can be, either.
Possibly, but I am not as optimistic. Schuab's career numbers Stat Overview Passing SPLIT CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT Career 84 161 1033 52.2 6.42 59 6 6 12 69.2 .......and yeah, I know he has only been in the league for 3 seasons and has not had an opportunity to start. I want to see how he does this upcoming seaosn before saying I think he can get us to a super bowl.
In his opinion, too, evidently: I heard a soundbite of his on the radio saying they were poised for a "championship run" and "this is the year". Direct quotes. As much as I want the Texans to succeed, I must admit I laughed out loud. I hope they can finally win 8 or 9--I'd be very pleased with such progress. If they win 10 or 11 or make noise in the playoffs I believe all of Houston will be pleasantly stunned. Heck, even Kubiak and McNair.
i don't care from the texans standpoint. i think it's interesting, though. i'm curious as to where the guy who was here for 5 seasons will end up next year and in what role.
