Hmm...isn't the parent usually in the car? Mine was... . That takes guts to leave a newbie in the car and stand outside giving direction on how to parallel park. Was she giving her the "keep coming" wave and then just got run over when the girl hit the accelerator. I dunno what happened exactly but the last place I'm going to be standing is in the way assuming it will go off without a hitch. That's some messed up stuff to have to live with for the rest of your live. And, here I am still feeling bad about running over my cat on the driveway when I was a teen.
Agreed. Not to be completely, heartless, but that's why God invented traffic cones (or if you don't feel like stealing those, get some plastic garbage cans). If the woman was, indeed, standing behind the car while her daughter was backing up, she was none too bright.
Thank you! Somebody has FINALLY recognized me for my superior parallel parking abilities. I didn't even get so much as a "good job" by my instructor when I originally displayed my parallel parking expertise. All he did was make me pull out and do it again. I really consider myself somewhat of a natural when it comes to this highly complex skill. I must give this young lady a lot of credit, though...she's way ahead of the curve. Most women drivers don't start killing innocent pedestrians until they've been on the road for AT LEAST two or three months.
One thing that I could never figure out with some drivers is how they mix up the accelerator and the brake. I'm sure we've all heard about those cases in driver's ed. where so-and-so accidentally hit the gas when they meant to hit the brake and plowed through the front of a store. Even then...I was shaking my head thinking "dumbass". In fact, I did my first parent-guided driving lessons a stick shift so I had an extra pedal...the clutch...and it still never was a problem. Even when I was a brand new driver...I instinctively knew where the gas pedal was from watching mom/dad all those years prior. I've never...not even once...confused the gas pedal and brake. I thought it was an inherited trait just to know which is which. I honestly don't know how anyone could make that mistake...even new drivers. Maybe they have bad eye-to-foot coordination?
I was wondering the same thing. Even more to the point, I wonder what point this happened at in the whole 'lesson'. I'd imagine to actually strike, pin and kill the woman the girl would have had to hit the gas pretty hard. Horrible thing for the girl. ....in any other circumstance, though, A-Train's 'most women drivers' joke does get a chuckle...
i feel bad for the girl...she may never drive again. I remember a girl in my drivers-ed class who let go of the steering wheel once she got onto the highway...she just started screaming with her arms up onto the roof...funny thing our instructor got scared sh*tless and took him about 5 seconds to grab the steering wheel in front of him...we could have died. ...but for some reason at that time I found it funny
my guess is she backed up a little too much on the first push of the accelerator and might have hit her mom. Then she panicked and probably tried to brake too fast and was in such a hurry she totally ran her over. For those who make it sound like it's such a dumb joke to mix those up... ever think that she might have panicked cuz she was new, this was supposed to be an exciting thing, and she might have backed up too much and reacted badly? This is a horrible time for the family and she would probably never live that down. How do you put something like this behind you? Most kids this age thrived on the opportunity to drive and be a free teenager in High School. This girl will have to relive that nightmare as she learn to drive all over again. Moreso, she would have to live with knowing that she killed her own mother who was trying to help her in what is supposed to be one of the better moments of a child's life... learning to drive from her parents.
I'm probably the most insensitive poster here and even that's crossing the line. How is killing a parent even remotely funny?
IIRC in my driver's ed course, we spent 5 minutes on parallel parking. The instructor set up two cones in an empty parking lot and we tried it one by one (4 students). Good or bad we didn't do it again. By taking the course we bypassed the DPS road test. I still don't know whether it's on the road test. Knowing how to parallel park to get your license is a myth at least in this state. I still don't know how to parallel park well...dammit.
I feel bad for the girl. she is gonna have to deal with that for the rest of her life. she is probably considering suicide right now. i mean how do you possibly recover from this. her personality is going to change dramatically. she wont ever be the same. she might be looking at extensive therapy. but still that sucks. how does one recover?
OK, so it's not as funny as, say, some guy killing himself trying to jump over the Great Wall of China on his bicycle, but not even REMOTELY funny? c'mon...
That is slightly funny because it has a man trying to prove he can defy the laws of physics, and a choice... This, while bizarre, was a tragic accident.
I did this joke last week comparing Osama to Andrea Yates and how if she's not going to jail for being crazy the why should Osama (crazy). The joke was actually a slam on the legal system and the Yates trial but it still walked several people. Funny is relative, but the timing on both of our pieces is probably a little off.
