In my opinion it depends on the phone. If everyone used the same phone this record would be cool.

If texting is so damn popular now as the article states, why can't companies make more phones with QWERTY keyboards?!

even though it was someone from Utah, it's good to see this hallowed record back with the red, white, and blue.

    U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

I can't really think of how one phone would be better than the next, assuming you're not allowed to use the predictive text feature. Maybe some button layouts are better for some people's fingers.

I just did the phrase on the first try in roughly a minute. I don't see how the old world record could have been something as high as 57.75 seconds.

    43.24? Yeah, that's pretty good :p

EDIT: 69 seconds on my offical try. I'm sure it'd go at least a few seconds faster if I had the phrase memorized. Still can't believe the world record was that "slow".

I wouldn't wait for that stuff. I would just go ahead and type my own text. That T9 stuff sometimes gets stuff wrong. If you can get the "official" phrase to close to a minute, kudos to you, my man.

I've never been a fan of the predictive text so I use the "old school" method all the way. The thing that slows me down is that if you want to use two letters back to back that appear on the same numerical pad, you have to pause for a second to let things "reset" or whatever so it knows you want a new letter. With some way around that, and having the phrase memorized, I probably could have had a world record!!! :D :p

On a side note, I've always been curious if other people can text without looking. I mean pretty much an entire message if need be. Somewhere along the line I reached that point and just wonder if it's common or not.

I use the normal method as opposed to T9 as well. You're a lot more flexible in what you can type, even if it takes a little longer.

I can dial without looking, but that's about it.
To enter a letter on the same key as the previous letter, you DON'T have to wait. Simply press -> or the right movement key. For example, the word "dessert" has double letters and letters on the same number that follow each other. Here's the process for that ONE word: 3 -> 33 7777 -> 7777 3 7 8 . Try it out, yo.

I see. Would take a little getting used to, but would be a bit faster in the end. Thanks, I never knew. :D
