This is one of the most disgusting pieces of "journalism" ever put forth by the mouthpiece for LibQaeda, CNN. The Islamic Army of Iraq put forth an initiative to launch a PR campaign targeting the American public, in an effort to defeat the American cause in the War on Terror. What does CNN do? THEY HELP THEM. Truly unbelievable. As the run-up to the midterm elections has begun, CNN's stories have become increasingly anti-War on Terror, in hopes of pulling in the Democratic vote. It's disgusting, unpatriotic, and treasonous. Of course, the libs have been advancing similar PR campaigns for years, beginning with John Forbes Kerry's lies regarding Vietnam. Whose side are they on, anyways? Has their partisan rage driven them to root against our soldiers' efforts? This very much seems to be the case, sadly.

Video shows snipers' chilling work in Iraq
(CNN) -- Chilling scenes from a videotape made by insurgents show the work of snipers in Iraq, targeting and killing American troops, taking them down with a single bullet from a high-powered rifle.

The graphic video of 10 sniper attacks was obtained by CNN -- through intermediaries -- from the Islamic Army of Iraq, one of the most active insurgent organizations in Iraq.

In one scene, U.S. soldiers mingle among Iraqi civilians on a city street as a U.S. Humvee with a gunner in its turret stands guard nearby.

From a distance, possibly hundreds of yards away, a sniper watches for his opportunity to strike as a fellow insurgent operates a camera to capture the video for propaganda purposes.

In the video, street sounds mix with male Arabic voices as the sniper and his spotter talk off-camera.

"People are around them," warns the spotter, who seems to be operating the video camera. "Want me to find another place?"

"No, no," comes the reply, "give me a moment."

And then, the crack of gunfire is heard and the soldier in the turret slumps forward.

"Allahu Akbar (God is Great)!" is the exclamation as the sniper's vehicle starts and they slip away.

The deadly tactic is one the U.S. military also uses to take out insurgents.

Retired Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlin was one of the top U.S. Marine Corps snipers in Iraq and has written a book about his experiences -- "Shooter: The Autobiography of the Top-Ranked Marine Sniper."

"I have over 60 kills," he told CNN's Gary Tuchman. "We seek out the enemy and eliminate them with precision fire."

Tuchman used Coughlin's critical eye to analyze the Islamic Army of Iraq video.

Coughlin said the time lapse between the sound of the shot and the man getting hit indicates the gunfire is coming from about 300 to 500 yards away and probably from a higher angle.

But Couglin said he's sure this team of at least three people has been trained well because they're so calm.

"They have their stuff wired," he said. "They know what they're doing." (Watch the ex-Marine describe snipers' deadly work -- 2:46)

The 20-year Marine veteran said the kind of body armor worn by troops in combat can be effective against a sniper's bullet, and he added that there are other ways to defend against the horrifying attacks.

"The worst enemy of a sniper is another sniper," Coughlin said. "Our snipers are hunting these guys -- I guarantee you this is happening as we speak."

Coughlin added that, in many cases, the best defense is a good offense

EDIT: Actually this video on CNN shows very little. The whole video is on youtube.

I don't understand how this supports backing off the war? I'm anti-War on Terror, and if anything, the video made me "want to go kill them mother-f'ers!!"

But it barely did that, though. In reality, it was just a piece of news to me that showed me the conditions over there. It was informative and interesting, and I could have easily chosen not to watch if I didn't want to.

Thanks to recent uncovered letters we know that Al Qaeda wants and hopes for America to continue its occupation of Iraq. If this would increase the likelihood of ending our occupation, then it would be a direct blow against Al Qaeda's wishes.

Just want to say how happy I am to have Jorge back in time for the mid-terms. I am seriously surprised to see he has the nuts to come back and make the same old liberals-hate-America arguments even after pretty much the entire country has rejected them and decided rather to lay the blame for this country's enormous problems at the feet of the party that has controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress for the last several years.

Way to stick to your guns, Jorge. BTW, what are your futures sites saying these days about the coming elections? It looks to me like the GOP will be very lucky to retain a slim-as-possible majority in the Senate after handily losing the House. But maybe you'd like to join Karl Rove in predicting January will see a Republican Speaker of the House and Republican Majority Leader. Or maybe you'd just like to blame CNN for an Iraq war that James Baker now describes as "a helluva mess" and that Bush now says might be comparable to Vietnam.

AS usual, t_j resorts to name calling and finger pointing (libQaeda, ROFLMAO) to try to distract from the massive failure of the party in power. Thankfully, the American public seems to be seeing the truth over the McCarthy-like tactics of people like t_j.

    What a maroon.

this ties in nicely w/ the President's comments re thomas Friedman's article comparing the current upsurge in violence to the Tet Offensive. Wikipedia makes the point:

[rquoter]The Tết Offensive can be considered a crushing military defeat for the Communist forces, as neither the Viet Cong nor the North Vietnamese army achieved any of their tactical goals. Furthermore, the operational cost of the offensive was dangerously high, with the Viet Cong essentially crippled by the huge losses inflicted by South Vietnamese and other Allied forces. Nevertheless, the Offensive is widely considered a turning point of the war in Vietnam, with the NLF and PAVN winning an enormous psychological and propaganda victory. Although US public opinion polls continued to show a majority supporting involvement in the war, this support continued to deteriorate and the nation became increasingly polarized over the war.[1] President Lyndon Johnson saw his popularity fall sharply after the Offensive, and he withdrew as a candidate for re-election in March of 1968. The Tết Offensive is frequently seen as an example of the value of propaganda, media influence and popular opinion in the pursuit of military objectives.

in that context, i think it's fair to ask whose side cnn is on, eason?

A US Marine helped provide information for that CNN piece. I find it amazing and disgusting that T_J would accuse a US Marine of being a traitor and supporting Al Queda, and that you would question an honorable American soldier's patriotism.

As for CNN, they are on the side of getting information out there, as much as you might like to stay blind. You've been wrong over and over on your assessements on the war's progress over the last 3 years, while the news networks have been right. Perhaps you should actually start listening to them instead of trying to believe they are evil.

....and thus marks the end of basso and the righties suspension of disbelief regarding the debacle in Iraq.

....and thus begins the attempts to shift the blame from the white house and its backers who conceived and executed it (or more accurately, misconceived and poorly executed it), and with whom responsibilty and accountabilty would naturally be charged in any logical calculus, to.....the media. Hey, it was either them or the gays.

    Good to have TJ back!

    HOWEVER!,

I don't ever remotely see how this is Pro-terrorist. I guess the questions is this.

Do you want a press that shows the WHOLE story? (Not that CNN is even remotely neutral; they show everything in a very pro-American light)

Or do you want an extremely pro-American press that does nothing but show how wonderful things are going in Iraq, LIE to us. Basically just propaganda. (FOXNEWS)

I personally want an unbiased approach, just the facts please. I want to know what is really going on.

And this "you’re just doing what the terrorists want" is the most ridicules argument. One, how the hell do you know what the "terrorists" want, especially with all the different groups in Iraq that are fighting each other as well as fighting us? Second that argument is just a way to enforce censorship by trying to bully the press with claims of being "unpatriotic". Last time I checked, having a free press is very PATRIOTIC.

    Welcome to the year 2002.

Most Americans have learned that such "with us or against" us tactics are no longer useful. Feel free to join the rest of us whenever you are ready. ;)

So TJ, how many people have you been able to get to change their minds about George Bush, the War on Terror, and the GOP using the tactics you routinely use on the BBS?

Despite the long layoff, TJ seems to be in midseason form judging by all of the expected responses posted.

TJ please share your secret with Yao Ming and TMac because their shots are off.
