As we are finally moving alon (thanks Castor) I better start with first things first.

We have ditched D3. So any old D3 manager or new CM participant need to chose a new team.

We decided everything is good to go so there are some cream choices out there that has way more status than any of the human teams that is in D1. But then again, status aint worth **** if you dont use it. ;)

How to spot a big club. Average attendance is a nice starting point. Here is a hotlist of teams available:

    West Ham
    - finished 22nd in D1 last year and relegated
    - has the highest attendance of all teams available, but they also played in a higher division last year. If SF3 wants them (he mentioned them in chat) it is his choice, if he selects another team West Ham is open for all.
    - secure finances, will have some £££ to spend
    - good training facilities
    - 35000 all seater stadium with under-soil heating

    Wimbledon
    - also relegated from D1, finished 23rd
    - does not own their own stadium (renting from Crystal Palace) but Selhurst Park (The Stadium) is a big one.
    - insecure finances, will be in debt
    - good training facilities

    Wigan
    - also relegated from D1, finished 24th
    - insecure finances
    - adequate training facilities
    - 25000 all seater with under-soil heating

    Watford
    - finished 3rd last season in D2
    - secure finances
    - top facilities w/youth academy
    - 23126 all seater with under-soil heating

    Crystal Palace
    - finished 5th last season in D2
    - ok finances (this does not mean they have money, this means they can have anywhere from a couple of millions, to a small debt)
    - good facilities
    - 26309 all seater

    Sheffield United
    - finished 7th last season in D2
    - ok finances
    - top facilities w/youth academy
    - 30413 all seater with under-soil heating

    Huddersfield
    - finished 8th last season in D2
    - insecure finances
    - good facilities
    - 24000 all seater with under-soil heating

    Nottingham Forest
    - finished 15th last season in D2
    - secure finances
    - good facilities
    - 30602 all seater with under-soil heating

    Reading
    - finished 19th last season in D2
    - ok finances
    - good facilities
    - 24200 all seater with under-soil heating

    Barnsley
    - finished 1st in D3 last season
    - ok finances
    - good facilities
    - 23000 all seater with under-soil heating

This is not all teams available - just a hotlist. To find out the average attendance for these teams check the CM site - has averages for all seasons. (there you can see changes from year to year/ division to division). To see all teams available just check the textfiles and see what teams was stuck in D2 and what other teams promoted (as all teams relegating from D1 was listed here)

If you want one of these teams just claim them. Have any questions about them - just ask. I might even send up a textfile for last season if you wonder about taking a team but can't decide. If you state you want a team, no-one else can claim them until you decide - off course you can only want 1 team. (So if you want one team, and ask them to be compared to another, no one is stopping anyone from taking the other team)

If anyone have a suggestion regarding the league please do come forward with it. Anything to improve the league.

I guess mentioning in here all that is done open up for the possibility for all.

Castor started out wanting to transfer list a bunch, and still did. Out of the 10 he listed he still consider getting rid of all, the 3 players not listed was running out of contract and is being cut or is leaving on their own terms. But Castor also got a coach report on some of these that made him think twice about letting them go.

We also did contracts - a thing to consider for more - damn even I forgot my contracts this season and as a reason Shaun Derry found himself a new team.
But here is also a good option to get a coach report. 1 player in the reserves had never done much there (no one can when the reserve system is slaughtered it seems) and I told Castor that this player was up for contract and was wanted by Mansfield.

    Castor: You can have him.
Heath: Sure you don't want a coach report first?
    Castor: Ok

Of course it helps that Castor has a very good assistant manager that feeds him these reports (you can ask for a report from any coach or the assistant). He has a 17 attribute (of 20) in both judging abilty and potential.

Heath: Tony Kelly (assistant manager) is a keen admirer of Shaun Wilcox's abilities. He sees the powerful forward as a key member of the squad already.
    Castor: Offer him a contract.

The option to get a coach report has been available all the time, I guess I have mentioned it in the threads before, but it has not been advertised :)

Again, of course it helps to have a trusted person to ask about these reports, but they can be an indicator anyway.

If you want a report on any of your players just mention it here and I will do my best to put it out there. (I can do this in chat too, but I think I prefer them here just to get the reports advertised)

After listing his players Castor started doing searches to replace his players (being a bit thin he is planning to replace them all and start getting a reserve team for prospects)

Castor - if you want you can fill in the others on you secrets of getting new players. I guess I do it sort of the same way, but I usually also use my scouts to verify the finds (sends scouts out on them after finding them manually)

I guess it might be in Castor's plan as he listed wanting to see his scouts (currently in info5 and 6, but they probably wont be there for long) so he could get more qualified scouts.

We can as always send out our scouts to spot talent but I usually do it the way mentioned over, except for sending out a scout sometime after youth talent for my reserves/prospect. When I do send scouts out for proven players it is usually in UK/Ireland, Scandinavia, Central or Southern Europe. Why send them somewhere were work permits are needed and for players that might find it difficult to adjust to the English lifestyle?

    more later

Castor - found 2 scouts that could replace your bad one (info5) - uploaded them to info3 and 4.

I uploaded both as they prefered different styles, and the style they prefer probably affects how they judge a player.

    So who do you want?

I guess go with Green. I play a more attacking style so I guess that would be the one i would want.

BTW- I will do a write up of how I get players for my team and post it later.

I asked my board to improve the tarining ground, and as it was awful (has been so for all 5 seasons) they agreed to invest in better facilities. How much of an improvement I get I do not know, but I think it helped that I have a good rep with the club and have moved them from D3 to D1.

After having them agreeing to this I asked them to expand the stadium. I have room for 10500 and last season I averaged 9770 in the league and above 9300 for all games. The game usually specifies that you have to average 90% of your capacity before a team will consider expanding. The 90% threshold for me is 9450, so with me even moving up to a higher level next season I hoped they would expand, but they did not feel the need to do so at the moment, and I would not give them an ultimatum about it - so the stands will be packed next season.

I think they might have agreed to expand the stadium had I not asked for them to improve the training facilities too. But I guess there is always next year.

Yeah, Manny - you can have Sheffield United. Also - SF3 grabbed West Ham, although he did not post it here.

    CM Player Acquisition 101

Since Heath mentioned this above I thought I would put in writing the formula I use to bring players in to my club.

Rule #1- Know what type of player you want-- This means know the position you want as well as what that player will need to do. Do you want attacker, defender or a combination.

Rule #2- Know your system-- Know what type of tactics your team uses. What positions attack and what positions set up and what positions defend. For my team I have 3 central attackers with some pacey and good crossing wings. My MC's are generally good ball control and fairly good defenders. This goes hand in hand with rule 3

Rule #3- Know what Attributes work well for your system-- What type of attr. are important for a player to be successful with your team. For example, when I search for a Wing I want a guy that is quick and can pass the ball well straight away and on crossing. that is why Michael Jack was a 6 million dollar man. He did not score a ton but he created a ton of scoring chances. He fit perfectly in my system and I am having a hell of a time trying to replace him:(.

Rule #4- Look at all the attributes-- It sounds contradictary to the above rule but what I mean is this. When you search have 3-5 attributes you see as key. Whittle your search list down with them. Once you have them at a manageable number (I would say less that 10) look at the other sattributes too. I knwo it sounds like common sense but I have seen players in my searches that had the highest attr. in all categories I searched for but then had < 10 in several other key categories. Make sure to get a good well rounded player. Not a guy that is great in your selected attributes but sucks in others. See also rule#7.

Rule #5- Be wary of foriegners-- That is foriegners that are not already playing in England. Don't get me wrong I have several on my club that are great but you have to be careful with them. If they do not have enough Caps they will not get a Work permit and you will have wasted your time(Heath can help you with this part). Also when you are evaluating them check the league they play for. If it is a foriegn league what is the quality of the competition. Premier doesn't always mean they are playing great teams. Some foriegn premier leagues are no better than Div 3 here.

Rule #6- The classified rule-- You didn't think I was going to give out all my secrets did you??

Rule #7- When in doubt check the weighted stats-- What i mean by this is, if you are not sure about a player look at his stats and weigh them against the level of competition he is playing against. For attackers, does the guy score or create scoring opportunities, how are his ratings does he have a rating over 7.00, If he is playing on an equal or lower level than you and his rating is below 7.00 i would consider passing unless the rest of his stats are great or there is some extinuating circumstance as to why he is playing bad(i.e. he is benched or has been injured). If you are still unsure check his previous season stats.
An example of this on my current squad would be Jamie Cureton. He had great attributes and played in the Premiership and was definitely what i was looking for. Then I saw his current stats and they were terrible, sub 6.60 rating few goals and few assists for a striker is kinda worrying. Heath checked his stats for the season before and he had scored a ton of goals and and had a +7.50 rating. Come to find out he had been benched by an moronic coach and I got him on a player request for a really good price.

Rule 8- a rule for the cash strapped-- Know what the player status codes mean. You can often get players that request moves or are up for loans far less than their market value. If you are low on funds and need a guy look for one that has requested a move. If you have a couple of guys that look similar in talent you can get requested players and sometimes loan players for bargain basement prices.

Rule 9- If all else fails ask...-- You have several options with this rule. If you are still unsure after the previous 8 rules ask a scout. Send one to watch a player(note if he is foriegn it may take a while to get a report). Do a compare. Find a player on your team that plays the same position(this is important because if you use different positions you will get a false report) and get a computer compare. These are not always reliable so take them for what they are worth. If nothing else works ask Heath. he knows the game inside and out and can usually give you good advice on a player. I have had him change my mind several times on who to get and they have usually worked out. He is not going to tell you "well this guy is pretty good" when in fact the guy is crappy.

If you have questions about this ask me. I have done tons of searches and sometimes I don't even sign anyone. But it makes the game a lot more interesting and makes it more fun to follow my team when I am actively involved in all the aspects of running a club.

    CK

There has been some great activity in the offseason from a few teams and there is still time to get what you need until next season start. Also some players are still on their way in, just have to get their work permit approved first. So their might be some joy when that clears for some of you.

It is closing up on preseason, and if you would like to arrange a game or two, now is the time. If you like I could also just accept incoming challenges. They havent started yet, but if we should go with what happened earlier offseasons they will start flooding in soon - but that might not get all teams games.

So any thoughts on how your team will fair this season?

Mansfield - I have currently no players coming in, but I will search long and hard to bring in a star midfielder. I could also need some rotation players/prospects as I have lost a few players since last season, although mostly scrubs. Also with promoting last season I could as a new team in D1 need a couple of improvements, but maybe I got them late last year as the team that won promotion was much improved over the team that I had half-way through the season last year.

    Players gone since last year

    Date Player Out To Fee
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    7.6.06 Gary Fisken Released Free
    10.6.06 Luke Coates Cheltenham £75K
    28.6.06 Shaun Derry Wigan Bos
    28.6.06 Andy White Morecambe Bos
    28.6.06 Lee Jones Released Free
    9.7.06 Chris Walker Released Free

Shaun Derry was a good piece in Midfield, Luke Coates an excellent prospect that will be missed (apart from his behaviour), Gary Fisken also a prospect that could have amounted to something, but would not sign a new contract due to lack of PT. The others will not make me lose any sleep. So if I just can replace those, and get an improvement or two, I should be able to do good in D1 - I dont exclude the possibility that I might fight for the playoffs.

    The season is on!!!

In case you wont be in the chat when I start it up, you could post your lineup/tactics for the first game here. Stats from every friendly game played available in the box scores, if you had more than 3 games, check the info files for the remaining games. Also uploaded the first reserve game to the news section.

Btw - about reserves - if you want some in the first team down to get some more PT just tell me to send those down (Remember players can play for both teams, but a regular first teamer should not be listed in the reserves as it would tire them for the first team games).

Mansfield Lineup/Tactics for the first game:

    3-5-2 Attacking
Passing: Short (new for the season, hope my team are up for it - now I have evolved from Direct in D3 to Mixed in D2 to Short now)

Round 1 is all done and updated at the new site (maybe time to stop calling it mirror)

Would have done Round 2 too - but too tired.

Will do it during the day (europe time) tomorrow so I can add Nomar's Nottm Forest. Easier for me to get all up when I can concentrate fully on it.

So put your team/gameplan in here if you want to so I can do what you most wants in round 2.
