Here is an interview Clyde did at the radio station here in NYC. And its all about vindication baby!

I have been calling into this station for about 8 years every time some idiot host hoists Shaq, or Duncan above Olajuwon in NBA history. And when they start going GAGA over Jordan, I try and call in also.

    My point when I call?

Olajuwon is the greatest player of the last 25 years...and that includes Mike.

I love Mike. But at the risk of sounding biased, I think Dream was just better.

So, when I call to defend my position as to why he is the THIRD best center to ever play and (I can argue that with no problems), they lay the smack down on me.

Oh...but when I argue he was the greatest player in the last 25 years, its damn near personal with these guys.

And to be fair, they are REALLY BIG fans of Dream. I always said that they were the only ones in a big to biggest media market to give Dream his credit especially after Dream destroyed Robinson. But they don't put him in the top 10 of all time and I do. They always say he is around 12.

Anyways, listen to what Drexler said about that topic. And listen to what he says about JVG and the new coach Adelman. A very good interview.

And next time I call them, I can always reference Clyde! :)

I'm sorry, but after listening to Clyde the last couple years on Rockets telecasts, it's hard to take anything he says seriously.

link don't work for me... but

clyde may be a bad color commentator.. but he is a cougar, rocket, hall of famer, and wears a ring for Houston and never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. (even though sometimes I think he should. instead of painting everything rosy)

    Clyde gets a pass.

Is this the first time a poster included his moniker in the thread title in the GARM?

why does clyde sound so much better outside of the announcing booth? he is good to listen too when he doesn't try to sound like an announcer. yall know what i mean? it's like he doesn't ever get comfortable when doing games.

anyhow the interviewers just basically said there is an argument that dream might be the 4th best center ever and clyde took exception with that and said he was the best center of his generation and that those top 4 (wilt, kareem, russell, and dream) are all too good to pick a best out of the 4. clyde also went on to say that you can make an argument that dream was the best PLAYER of his generation and the interviewers were like "yeah he was a great athlete blah blah blah..moving on..."

When Francesa said that Clyde quickly started talking about how smart Olajuwon was on the court...

I was gonna say the same thing in the bullwinkle thread. He sounds great when he's not trying to do his Dick Stockton impersonation. And it seems like he never says anything ridiculous outside of Rockets broadcasts for some reason...

My god New York talk radio hosts... how does any sports celebrity ever agree to be spat at by these people. It's like watching a TV show where the talk radio hosts are the commercials: 10 decibels louder than everything else. It reminds me of that Family Guy episode where the Yawkers go up to watch the leaves turn. Jets suck, Knicks suck, Yankees suck. Krypton sucks.

Clyde compliments everyone. He once told me Reece gaines was going to be a solid solid player when he gets minutes.

Thanks, Almu. And if anyone believes Clyde said that about Hakeem because he compliments just everyone, they're seriously in need of some brain cells. If anyone knows the Dream, it's Clyde. And if anyone knows what Hakeem can do, it's Clyde. He wasn't talking out of his hat. He meant every word he said.

Just because Clyde is a god-awful color man on the tube some folks have decided he doesn't know basketball and is insincere. He might make a lousy coach, but he sure as hell knows basketball. He might not be able to articulate what he knows well, but he sure as hell knows it, regardless. The man was one of the best to ever lace them up. I'm a little tired of the endless crap he's been getting. Hammer him for his lack of coaching ability and his lack of skill on TV, but don't think for a moment he doesn't know the game, or the Dream.

It's not just a matter of him not being able to articulate. He says preposterous things during telecasts. If he really understood the game, as you say, that wouldn't happen. Maybe he's just goofing around on purpose, a la Bill Walton. That's always a possibility.

    Seriously.

We all love Dream, but 6 rings for 6 consecutive full seasons MJ played > 2 rings that Dream won when MJ wasn't playing.

MJ is the best player ever. Period.

Michael Jordan was there in 1995. He was pretty good, too. He lost to the team Olajuwon and the Rockets swept.

Uhhh... except for the part where Jordan was playing in 1994-95.

But really... go ahead ahead and keep spouting your revisionist history, just like ESPN tells you to. I suppose next you're going to tell me how it was Jordan who carried NC to that title, and not James Worthy, right?

i don't want to turn this thread into a mj v dream argument, but don't try to act like mj didn't have the benefit of great teammates. dream was not surrounded by another hall of famer until later in his career. give dream a healthy sampson and non-coked up teammates then maybe you have a different story for dream's early career. or hell maybe if you pair up dream and drexler from the beginning then you get something jordan-esque.

I said FULL seasons...not a quarter of a season and then a playoff run.
