I'm a big time Internet bargain hunter/shopper. In fact, I shop so much I have to come to clutchcity just to recharge my testosterone [IMG]

Mostly I look for promotional coupons for startups, and it's just amazing some of the deals I've come accross. Typically, the Internet stores have better prices than any brick and morter store and usually there's no tax. Couple that with a coupon, and you can find some killer bargains. The UPS guys hate me; they show up at my house two and three times a week.

One of my favorite stops for gifts is www.ashford.com. They have just "OK" prices, and they will charge tax if you live in Texas. Why? Because they are local to Texas and they're located in Greenway plaza right next to the laptop. They have really "nice" things, and although their prices aren't spectacular, they ship everything for free overnight Fed-Ex in a beautiful gift wrapping. The way to get a good deal there is to use a coupon. The best place to find an Internet coupon these days (unless you guys know of a better place) is www.dealcatcher.com. There, you can find an ashford coupon for $150 off on a $500 purchase. 30% off ain't bad when you can get your woman that new Dooney and Burke purse or a nice new Xemex watch for yourself. Why a Xemex? 'Cuz Clyde Drexler says so. He's teamed up with Ashford and supposedly will be writing a column for them on watches. Apparently, he's an avid watch collector, and though he mentions several watches, the first one he mentions is a Xemex. Personally, I'm saving my pennies for the Cartier Tank Francaise.

My company redesigned and updated Ashford's site last year and both Ashford and ourselves won awards for it.

    Just a little FYI.....

No problem; if you are mostly interested in DVD/CD's, I'd check out www.mainedvd.com.

Make sure you sign up for Rob's e-mail notices. He's a pretty nice guy, and he stays on top of things.

    Thanks Clutch

Jeff, Yah, but it's been a while. My fiance and I both talked about getting some of that professional Calphalon they had in their last sale, but neither of us ended up making it--it's just hard to get away from work some time. I do have some nice things in my house that I got there, though. It's a good place for a bargain.

Ahhh found the thread I was looking for...

Anyone know of a very good place to get DVDs at good prices? I took a look at the www.mainedvd.com and looks like they are a month or so behind on updates... I like buy.com, but was wondernig if someone knew of a place with just kick ass prices.

    Thanks in advance...

    Freak...niiiice!

Clutch, I buy the majority of my DVDs at Circuit City. They're normally cheaper than anywhere else, the only problem being selection. They don't much in the way of obscure titles.

BTW, has anyone heard of a DVDs anonymous? I got my DVD player on June 24th and already have 35 DVDs. I can't stop buying them.

Both of those concepts work for existing material that is already out there, but fail miserably in the future.

    Scenario:
Less than a 100 units per artist can be sold
after December 31,2000 because of the popularity of Napster. Celine, Faith Hill etc can only move under 100 units each.
How long before record companies stop free promotional product because 100 units will not be able to subsidize it? How long before record companies are unable to promote artists and their work because of the nil cash flow?

The bottomline is that there has to be a certain amount of purchasing to keep the recording industry in business.

Sorry to get off topic, but:
I use Napster and if I like a band, artist or song I generally go out and buy the CD. Not because I can't download the whole CD, but because I want to support to the artist.

However, this Antitrust case against the record companies for price fixing p#sses me off [IMG]. They deserve everything they get and more.

Bobo, you've derailed yet another thread. I hope you're freakin' happy.

Nobody necessarily deserves everything they get. If that were the case then we'd be paying 5 times what we're paying for gas, Microsoft wouldn't be in court, etc.

Editor's Note : assuming you meant that record companies deserve to make as much money as they can, and not record companies deserve to get screwed. If it's the latter, then I agree... lol!

    DoD,

I definitely meant the latter - the record companies deserve to get screwed.

Like I said, I don't want the artists to miss out, but I can't believe the hide of the record companies. Through RIAA, they sue to shutdown Napster because they claim it is illegal, and obviously think it threatens their business. Now major record companies are facing an investigation into widespread price fixing of CDs.

    Man, do I suck!

Clutch himself asks for my kind of help in a thread I created, and I completely miss it.

Oh well, better late than never. Clutch, mainedvd has pretty much gone away, but www.dealcatcher.com is as good as ever. They have a DVD section where you can get coupons for DVD's.

Also, check out www.dvdtalk.com. They have links for great coupons, they show the best deals going, and they even have a BBS that you'll find quite familiar.

Remember: the best deal is to use a coupon on a pre-order. I have over a 100 DVD's now, and I've been able to average about $10 a piece on them--mostly with coupons.

    Good luck.
