I don't know if anyone has paid attention to the betting threads that has been going in the hangout lately, but these have spun of an idea that we could have a league to see who of use can produce the best results with a bookie. This will not use real money, but if you want to you can of course put your bets both here and at a real bookie. At the bookie you can win and lose money. Here you will only win bragging rights. And maybe a special BBS title? But I'm in no control of those. The threads going in the hangout has been primarily about NBA bets as this is a basketball site for Houston Rockets fans, but you can make your bets at any sporting event you see fit to use, at the bookie of your choice. I will in addition post some NBA odds each day for those who want to play without looking up a bookie. You can also use the same odds as other participants use in this thread. As you can use any online bookie you please this will have to run on an honour system. You state your bet and claim your winnings. It is not fail proof against cheating, but if anyone would cheat to win nothing but a best bettor title they would have to be lower than low. There will be however be a possibility for others to check up on you, if they wanna check out your bookie for other bets or use your bet IRL as you have to set your bet 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time. To play you just join in and place your bets as everyone has 1000 starting credits. I will update the scores for the participants as we go along. Also when you win a bet, I think it will be easier on me if you claim that bet as a winner, then I won't have to check the result of any bet put here, but just update the scores. Let the games begin. I would prefer that there is only short term bets, but if anyone wants to put in for a winner of a tournament I guess we can as accept that as long as it is decided before the game ends of course. Bet on an event: Up to 15 minutes to the scheduled start. (Bookies use 5 minutes so this give others a chance to check your bet, or even take your advice and spend money on it IRL if they want to) To put down a fantasy bet: State your pick, what you pick them to do (win outright, cover spread, over/under etc) and the odds given for the pick. You can combine bets if you like to in any fashion you please but if you combine two or more bets the bets has to come from the same bookie. Then remember to state how many credits you put on the bet and give a link to the bookie you've used. You know what, with Bulls up 15-10 I will void my own bet because of the 3 minutes late post so there is no doubt. Making decisions about it after a game has started is not good, and with Bulls up I can not be blamed for voiding it because the bet was going bad. My bet should only count for the Laker game now. A rule is a rule I guess. It was even I who made it. If we want to change that rule for later it is ok, but it would be bad for me to go against a rule I set myself, even if it was only for typing up the new odds.
