It's Christmas for NBA fans. The NBA Draft is Thursday night, June 24th 2010, starting at 6pm Central time and televised on ESPN. The annual monster chat for Rockets fans in the ClutchFans chat room will also kick off at the same time, 6pm. The Rockets sit with the final lottery pick (#14) and there are rumors they are trying to trade up again (as they have tried every single year under Morey). Will this be the year they actually pull it off? Live NBA Draft Chat starts at 6pm Central http://www.clutchfans.net/chat.cfm
for all us old-timers who had to sit through drafts that yielded nothing more than eric meek or john turner, please mr. mor-ay, come through for us this year
Draft Day Hauls Under Daryl Morey 2006 (as a consultant): Shane Battier Steve Novak (#32) Lior Eliyahu (#44) 2007: Aaron Brooks (#26) Carl Landry (#31) Brad Newley (#54) 2008: Donte Greene (#28) Joey Dorsey (#33) Maarty Leunen (#54) Grizzlies' 2009 2nd rd. pick 2009: Jermaine Taylor (#32) Sergio Llull (#34) Chase Budinger (#44) I'll take that track record, let alone his track record as a consultant in Boston, helping draft gems like Kendrick Perkins (#27, 2003), Al Jefferson (#15, 2004) and Ryan Gomes (#50, 2005).
Or Halloween. But if it's anything like it has been in the past, it will be 4th of July tomorrow night on Clutchfans.
I did not think anyone could outdo Isiah Thomas and Matt Millen. David Kahn is dangerously approaching that level of inep...I'll use a euphemism, like "counter-effectiveness." http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=ApDrU_5ym19wdUUG8Iabmoa8vLYF?slug=ys-draftbuzzb062210 David Kahn is about to do something that is worthy of "SMH" hall of shame moment. Then, Morey will be there to help him correct his mistakes
Well, as is the tradition for every Rockets draft, and to counter-jinx all the jinxes you guys have been putting on Morey... I am going to start by saying: "Why the hell did Morey draft that guy.... Morey sucks. Fire him!!!".
Not a bad track record at all. 2006 (as a consultant): Shane Battier - Safety over risk Steve Novak (#32) - mini bust Lior Eliyahu (#44) - Not an NBA player 2007: Aaron Brooks (#26) - Homerun Carl Landry (#31) - Homerun Brad Newley (#54) - Not an NBA player 2008: Donte Greene (#28) - INC - career could go either way. Joey Dorsey (#33) - Bust - Not an NBA player Maarty Leunen (#54) - Inc - Marginal NBA talent Grizzlies' 2009 2nd rd. pick - Gave it back in Steve Francis trade along with $$$ 2009: Jermaine Taylor (#32) - Inc - good athleticism - time will tell. Sergio Llull (#34) - Inc - Looks good in Euroball Chase Budinger (#44) - Homerun DD
actually isiah was a terrible GM but he was very good on draft, probably the only time he was good at his job
Well, I'm kinda late to the party here... issues in my life more important than the Rockets. But here's what I've looked at today... (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7074652.html) So naturally, I looked up Hassan Whiteside. Here's a couple of links of pre-draft info. about him. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...ff6MEy&usg=AFQjCNFcmhEMrqp1ll7s_9X6Qqy00LUq1g http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...ff6MEy&usg=AFQjCNH9SZxXF2g5MkdMbHCvV-OvijkOjA Draft report/assessments indicate too much downside (low weight for frame size, low BB IQ to name a couple) vs. the Rockets needs. As mentioned in the Chronicle article the general consensus is that Demarcus Cousins is the top-rated center pick of the draft. I watched an interview with him and he seems eerily like Ron Artest. The chances are probably slim that the Rockets get/take either one. They'll probably take the best talent as opposed to need, unless the two happen to coincide for them.
