I know this is kinda out of place for this forum, but I'm hoping the admins will let me slide this once.

    ..........................................

For the Rockets v. Jazz game on Tuesday, 26Mar02, a few of the BBS members here will meet at SRO @ Gessner & Westheimer.

It'll be fun to get a rowdy bunch of Rockets fans in one place to cheer our boys on. Typically, this place would be Compaq Center, but well, you know how Houston fans are.

Anyway, if you're free and would like to join us at SRO to watch the Rockets play the Jazz, mark your calendars.

If you decide to go, please reply to this thread for a head count.

If you guys ever will consider someplace other than a bar, I'm in. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and place like SRO make me sick. :(

Guys, I think Jeff has a great point. I'd like to avoid the smoke if I can also. I haven't been to a bar in such a long time I forgot about the smoke concern.

I'm open for an alternative location if we can come up with one.
As long as there's a big screen TV to watch the Rockets with a bunch of rabid Rockets fans, then I'm happy.

    Jeff/B - Any suggestions?

    withya on the smoke dealio!

    that bar has terrible venilation!

what about something like Rajun Cajun on Gessner at Westheimer...not so bad with the smoke because it is more like a Restaurant. We can occupy the entire back part....

You can call ahead and make arrangements to have the back section. UT and LSU meet there to watch games.

Lil Woodrows on Alabama near Greenbriar and
Champs (cool, big sports bar) in the new shopping center on 610 near San Felipe. Smoking is allowed, but those places seem to have good ventilation.

Lil Woodrows has a patio with TV's!

    just a suggestion.

What about Lyndon's Pit BBQ? They talk about it a lot on 610 and they have a private room with all the newspapers from the championship era on the walls. The only thing I'm not sure of is if they have a TV in that room, but I think if we reserved it we could make sure there is one in there. The other thing about it though is it may close on the early side, so that may throw that idea out anyway.

Jeff, I was under the impression you are a musician and in
a band. Don’t you play a lot of gigs in bars where the smoke
    is thick ????

Hey guys, are we still on for next Tuesday?

I called around for places that have designated non smoking areas, but can't find any. They have non smoking and a TV, but no area for us to watch, or vice-versa.

I figure on a Tuesday night, no other sports on, it shouldn't be TOO bad. So hopefully Jeff/B/others who don't like smoke will give it a shot.

SRO, next Tuesday for the Rockets v. Jazz game. First pitcher is on me.

If there's any better way of organizing this, please let me know.

Man, I wish I could meet y'all up there too...

Houston needs a law like we have here in LA, CA...NO SMOKING AT ALL PUBLIC INDOOR FACILITIES....I think that's the best thing about living here, besides the weather!!

I might try to make it, though I can't promise as of right now. I've been pretty busy lately meeting all my potenial roommates. Maybe I can plan it so I meet someone then head to SRO afterwards. The 27th pitcher is on me. ;)

I am a musician but I'm not in a band. I have played hundreds of gigs in my 18+ years playing but smoke was one of the things that drove me from live playing. I am probably going to get back out there later this summer, but it is still very hard for me to do gigs with the smoke.

You should plan to meet them AT SRO. That way you can see how loud they cheer for the Rockets. I think that should be one of your deciding factors.

    :D

Would you have someone as a roommate if he/she was perfect in every way, except for the fact that they are an avid Jazz fan?

Well, since it's one of the female roommates I'm meeting, I don't want to scare her off with my yelling. Plus I don't know about taking a cute single girl to a sports bar with a bunch of guys that spend way too much time on the CC.net BBS. :)

Being an avid Jazz fan in Houston is worse than stealing from someone's locker in the MLB. If I found out someone was a Jazz fan after I moved in with them I would terminate their contract and evict them. How many years does someone have to spend in solitary confinement as punishment for being a Jazz fan in Houston, or is it a life sentence?

I'll show up for the first half of the game, and I'll stay longer if the smoke isn't killing me. About the only time I even try to tolerate smoke is if the male - female ratio is grossly in my favor, and I know that won't be the case at SRO, but I can suffer one half for the Rockets.

I'm going to wear a double sided sign reading, "CC.net members here!"

Seriously, I think I can get SRO to assign a section to us. But since it looks like only about five ppl are showing up, I figured we'd just start showing up around 7:30p, and I'll wear my blue and red Rockets shirt. I guess by Sunday, if I can get an approx head count, I can see if SRO can do something.

    Any suggestions?

    Hey guys,

Let's have a final count of ppl who will be coming tomorrow. I'll call SRO to see if we can get a few tables reserved.

I'm still trying to schedule everything, and I think I'll be able to fit it in. I don't think I can stay for the whole game due to my 5:00 a.m. wakeup time. How are we going to know where to meet/sit?
