In an effort to help clean up/avoid redundant threads, I am going to start a master game thread and "stick" it. Predictions leading up to the game, thoughts on matchups, comments during and after the game can go here. Remember, we're discussing the game live in the chat room, so play-by-play type stuff is best suited there.

I don't want to stifle all new threads. If you have something you feel deserves to be it's own thread, please go ahead - some good examples would be "Yao Ming needs more minutes", "My Photos From The Game Live", "Francis Is Not a Point Guard" - stuff from the game that is a different conversation in itself, but is not specifically about the game or "your thoughts" from the game. Please use your best judgement.

The goal is to get good discussions rather than new threads filling up the forum at such a fast pace that good posts get "lost" sort of speak. If this works out, I'll also post the thread as an "article" in my game recap.

Let me know if you think this helps -- I'm open to suggestions on what should and shouldn't be in the "game thread". Also, please don't "jump" new users or get in their face because they didn't get this yet. Let me merge the thread or handle it - thanks.

I hope this can happen in the Nuggets game Friday:

    1) Play him as long as you can

    2) Let him shoot 15 times or more and he'll score 15 at least

    3) Set up to protect him a little bit so that he can avoid quick fouls.

There is no way you could build up his confidence while not play him much.

Things I would like to see happen this game

    1. Yao gets at least twenty minutes. Any game he only plays ten minutes is a waist. He gained absolutely nothing from that last game. I'm not even setting any goals for him yet, just let him play!

    2. Eddie needs to take 10 shots, and shoot better than 10% from the field. I'm not saying he has to shoot 50%, just baby steps!

    3. Steve only takes between 15 and 18 shots.

    4. The Rockets Win!!! If they lose I will start to worry. The Nuggets are the worst team in the league.

92??? Your being too kind A-Train:cool:

We need to start working as a team. Enough with the ISO's already. More PnR's, passing into the low post and better overall percentage shots is what this team needs.

Oh yeah, and a little defense wouldn't hurt.

If he starts at shooting guard again, he had better take more than 15-18 shots...unless you think he will shoot 90% from the field.

Let's hope RT doesn't take a tour of the Coors Brewing facilities before the game :(

Why do you say that? Steve took under 18 shots per game last year, and Cuttino, our shooting guard from last year, took 18 shots per game? Some people still think Cuttino shot too many shots last season. I think 18 is about right for both of them. And remember Steve gets to the line a lot. If he takes only 6 foul shots and shoots 50% on 18 shots, he'll end up with about 25 points. How much do you want him to score?

Agreed. I was very disappointed to see so many ISO's last night.

Did anyone else notice that whenever they ran a Pnr last night, the player with the ball didn't wait until the pick was set to make his move? The defender consistently got around the picks because they ballhandler wouldn't wait until there was contact between the pick and the defender.

But we did see a glimpse of things to come on the play where Stevie missed the dunk and came down hard on his hip. Near the top of the key, Yao set a pick on Francis' man, and the poor guy ended up flat on his ass! Francis was then so wide open that it took him a second or two before he drove the open lane.

I just think a 7'6", 300 pound pick is something we need to take advantage of this year. A lot. Might as well start Friday night.

Will Rice and Kenny be back for this game, and will they start?

That transforms the Rockets bench from this:

    Collier
    Hawkins
    Nachbar
    Yao

    to this:

    Collier
    Griffin
    Hawkins
    Nachbar
    Norris
    Yao

Still pretty thin, but getting better. Just four more games until Mo returns. He is going to add a lot to this team.

I'm going to be interested in seeing how Nene Hilario looks. He got so many mixed reviews before the draft, and I still have no idea what his skills are like.

I'm gonna be at the game!

Don't underestimate the Nugs guys. I know statwise they look like the worst team in history, especially without Camby (injured - surprise) and Howard (suspension). However, we stuck with a tough Minnesota team last night.

PG: Norris vs Witney -- I'm not a Norris fan, but he gets the advantage due to the fact that Witney has only been with the team a week. If Francis starts here and Norris comes off the bench, you have a huge advantage. The Nugs are screwed once Witney leaves the game. Satterfield is AWFUL, and our main goal is to have him not put us in an awful position when he comes in.

SG: Francis vs Posey -- Best matchup of the night. Francis is going to get his 20, but can Poz keep him to only that? I like his odds personally. When the Nugs have the ball, they need to post Francis up. Posey's working on his outside shot, but it's still not there -- yet.

SF: Mobley vs Bowen -- Bowen is starter by default, but don't be surprised if the Nugs go big and decide to let Skita start. Bowen's a tenacious defender and one of those players that every team needs to have (think Chucky Brown), but he's better off the bench. Skita played surprisingly well against Minnesota going 3-for-4 from behind the arc. He also held his own against Garnett on D. However, he's still very young and inconsistent, so I'm not going to risk counting my chickens before they hatch. Look for Rodney White to get some playing time as well.

PF: Griffin vs Andersen -- Harvey started last game, but Andersen's superior play should get him the nod. Andersen is a force on the offensive boards, and is king of the putback on our team. Griffin had a crappy first game, but should rebound from that. Look for Harvey to get some playing time here as well.

C: Cato vs Blount -- I'm keeping Blount as the starter just to be safe. However, there is no way the Nugs shouldn't put Nene in as the starter. Hilario is going to be a ROY cantidate. Dude is a force down low, good speed. Kind of reminds me of a young Karl Malone/Hakeem Olajuwon type. He's good for 10 and 10 this season at the bare minimum.

Call me crazy, but I think the Nugs are gonna pull off a tight one. Sure, I'm a homer, but it's our home opener so we'll be a little pumped, and the team is coming off of a game where they have TONS of positives to work with. No matter what, it won't be the roll-over that you guys think it will be.

You slid that in while I was typing my essay. :D

Like I said, he's incredibly atheletic, but he's surprisingly strong as well. I thought Skita was going to be the rookie to be excited about and Nene was going to be lost, but it's the exact opposite. Nene is going to be a force in the league for years to come.

    Don't forget,

We would've won if Hakeem hadn't been traded.

    i want see:

    1. the 5 man offense - lose or win.
    2. francis intentionally try to set up a teammate for a better shot than he has.
    3. ming on the court for 20 minutes.
    4. ming put up at least 8 shots.
    5. francis at the 1 and nachbar at the 3.

win or lose, if we do those things we are making progress, imo.
