Maybe this is dreamcasting, but this year's team really reminds me of the championship team of '95... i mean we've got two superstars. exceptional role players at every other position who have the potential to light it up on any given night. strong interior defence. strong inside-out offense. we're forecast to barely make the playoffs... did anyone else find the teams play in the last few games a little bit reminiscent of the good old days? could it be a sign of things to come?
Yeah I noticed another similarity from '95 THE SAME FREAKIN OFFENSE!!! What ever happend to... Oh we need a running slashing team with Franics Mobley and Shandon Anderson... yep that never materialized and also NEVER WORKED!!!! This revamped inside outgame is awesome.. because YAO is either equal to or a better passer than Dream and we can use our youth to our advantage with Mobley Taylor and Franchise cutting... They can all pretty much shoot the three... and who else thinks Cato could either be Most Improved PLayer or 6th Man depending on how they use him... He is playing great PF starting but do we want our backup center logging that many minutes? Things are loooking good especially on Defense... I alway thougt Franchise could have played a little bit better defnse because of his talent... Now he has the drive to play defense it was evident last night.... We could have one of the best Defensvie teams in the league....thanks to Mr. Van Gundy... I am looking forward to this season... GO ROCKETS!!!
I hear you man. That Rocket Red certainly helps bring back good memories though doesn't it. al22x, I may not remember everything about the offense of the championship days but I dont remember seeing as much movement and cutting as I see with this team. There is a lot screens and picks and decoys being set and used. There is one play where I heard Van GUDy yelling 41 west or something like that where Mobley would come out and high and recieve the ball and pass to Francis curling off a few picks in the middle. Then what about that slashing pass Yao Ming made to a cutting Torayye Braggs. But the king of all play calls was that play called for Yao coming out of a timeout where a few picks were set and a few passes were made to set up Yao right in the heart of the lane near the basket to get off a easy hook shot that was nothing but net. its funny, the offense is not scoring many points but it not really noticable when good shots are being taken because of good ball movement.
Nah, neither Yao nor Francis are near Dream and Glide status. The only thing they have on those two is their nickname combo, Dynasty and Franchise.
It does, but this year's Shaq team looks a LOT better than the '95 Magic. Not to be a pessimist or anything.
6th seed... taking down the Mavs, the Spurs, the Lakers and say... the Nets, all on the road? Sure why not, my Rockets Championship T-shirts are full of holes, time for a new set.
Going through tha post will help the rockets hell itll be alota better than giving steve the ball and letting him "go 2 work" It hasnt worked the last 4 years so trying this new offense sure cant hurt
Good post, TS. I agree. This offense is not the Rudy inside/outside offense. There is so much more movement everywhere. No more standing on the 3 point line waiting for the outlet pass. Lots of cutting, picks, screens, etc. Lots of open shots as a result. They aren't really falling yet, but they will soon enough. We are on our way, people. Playoffs this year. Deep playoff run next year. Championship the year after. It all starts in about 55 1/2 hours...
I don’t see the similarity. This team is going to use movement to free up scorers... Rudy’s T Rockets got open shots by forcing double teams of the post. Rudy had the post players that did not need movement to establish there position down low. Rudy’s system seemed to be force the opponent to double someone and then play off of it. I believe that’s what he was trying to do with Francis and Mobley too. They were supposed to drive beat their guy and score, or drive beat their guy and dish when help came. Comparisons between Yao and Dream are extremely premature. Remember Dream would almost single-handedly carry the Rockets, not just for a game, but for an entire playoff series. His conditioning was incredible, and I really can’t remember anyone he was not able to post up where he wanted to post up. The two things I don’t like so far about Yao, both of which I think contributed to him not getting the ball as much as he might have, is he doesn’t always get good post position and his conditioning is suspect. I’m sure the post position will improve, but the conditioning worries me.
There may be similarities between the two Rox teams, but the big difference is that there are way more tough teams in the NBA today than in 1995.
since we're all dreaming anyway, imagine the 95 version of hakeem surrounded by this supporting cast (minus yao, of course)
