Man, I tried connecting last night and all I did was a complete lockup at the connection screen from within CS. I'm running XP and couldn't even kill CS. I had to do a warm reboot... first time on XP. Wow. Anyway... do you have to configure your router to allow something when playing this? If not, I'll try again...
Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing... do I need to download maps before I play? Bah... gimme strategy/sim games. Where's my copy of Capitalism II?
Ok... so like I'm online now and I suppose I'm in the game... I have no clue as to what I'm doing. If you want target practice, I'm your target I suppose... no clue if there's anybody else here. I'm about as bewildered as a baby in a topless bar.

that is a most excellent stacking!!! I popped in last night around 10:45 and no one was in... I really want to shoot some of you BBS'ers up!! I'm going to download the new map today and Dadak...where can I get a copy of the inferno you have on the server? Everytime that map comes up it says I don't have it...and I do, 2 diff versions and neither of them work!? What gives? Any idea? DoD, if you connect and no one's playing, you can run around and target practice, learning the different guns and how they aim... each one, depending on power and recoil shoot differently. Anyone up for a game tonight, 2/22?? Maybe 10:30pm CST? or this weekend? Someone post a time/date. here's a spray/tag I'm considering... my current one is a Rockets Logo
That stack picture is pretty funny. I can remember trying to do that with several people in Quake III on several occassions. However, there was always someone who would come along with a rocket launcher and destroy the stack. I will try to drop in tonight. Unfortunately, if everyone drops in at different times, we probably all miss each other and noone wants to join an empty server or be there alone playing with themselves. DoD, I will try at 9 and rockHEAD...I will try again at 10:30. The only person I've seen there is DaDakota. He killed me a few more times than I killed him. It definitely would be better with more than two people. I'm still a newbie and I find my accuracy with the various weapons is not as good as in other FPS games. Maybe that's because their more realistic and there is no auto-aim. My initial tries in some games were like 0 kills, 10 deaths and 0 kills, 9 deaths in the first two games I played. Maybe I shouldn't have skipped the training. After that, I started scoring some kills. My biggest problem is distinguishing the terrorists from the counter-terrorists. By the time I make the distinction, I'm dead . Is there a quick and easy way to tell? I tend to pick the inferior guns as well or guns not right for the situation. The funniest thing is some of the big games I get in...I auto-assign and wind up on a team where everyone is using Voice Commanders. Those things must suck bad because usually all I hear is a crackling noise coming out of my speakers whenever someone says something which is usually, "Surfguy....what the hell are you doing trying to use a sniper rifle in a short-range situation?" or just "What the hell are you doing?" . Their trying to give me commands and not only can I not understand what their saying using those damn things but when I can make it out...it means nothing to me because I'm not hip to their jargon. Anyway, I hope we can get a game going tonight sometime. Maybe someone should post here when they are ready to play as well.
at first alot of things are overwhelming... - use the TAB key to see who's playing or if anyone is on the server... - don't go for real exotic weapons... learn to shoot with a pistol or a MP5, AK-47, M4A1...once you master those, then move on to more exotic weapons. - aim low.. most guns have a recoil and will shoot higher than your aiming. - buy ammo!! use the , and . keys to buy ammo when a game starts! load up. - stay away from sniper rifles, big ol guns with scopes until you are more advanced. - read newbie forums! here are a couple of my favorite CS websites... http://forums.counter-strike.net/ great newbie help forum as well as advanced forums... http://www.cs-maps.jolt.co.uk/ excellent map download site http://www.counter-strike.net/ the official site http://www.bobsbunker.net/ good site, lots of info do a search on google for "counter strike" and check out what comes up... learning to play, just comes from playing... I logged into several servers and withstood getting seriously berated by several players and i still get berated... but damn i love this game, so i keep playing..eventually i'll get good.
Okay, that picture of the dudes standing on top of each other has me sold. I know I've asked this before, but I'm too lazy to go searching through the bbs. Could someone tell me what exactly do I need to play this game? What should I buy and how much does it cost?
http://www.counter-strike.net/downloadcs.html this is the download page... pull down the menu and select "i don't know which one I need" and it will search your system for counter strike, then give you options as to which to download if you can't download you can purchase the stand alone version of counter-strike where you purchase your computer games...
