The Los Angeles Clippers are in advanced talks with unrestricted free agent Jamal Crawford, according to sources close to the situation.

The Clippers are aggressively pursuing Crawford, and are hoping to fly the 32-year-old guard out to Los Angeles later this week for a face-to-face meeting. No deal is imminent, but the talks are ongoing.

Crawford has also drawn interest from the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers. All six teams contacted Crawford last night. Crawford opted out of the final year of his contract with the Portland Trail Blazers last Wednesday. Last season, Crawford averaged 14.0 points in 60 games with the Trail Blazers.

Clippers in Advanced Talks With Jamal Crawford

by LJ Hann on Jul 1, 2012

According to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld, the Los Angeles Clippers are in advanced talks with free agent shooting guard Jamal Crawford. The Clippers hope to meet with Crawford in person this week in Los Angeles. Crawford, a 12-year NBA veteran, would likely demand the full MLE from the Clippers. The length of the deal is uncertain.

Crawford played for the Bulls, Knicks, Warriors, and Hawks before signing with the Blazers last off-season. During his time with the Hawks, Jamal became famous for being a scoring SG off the bench, winning 6th Man of the Year with Atlanta in 2010, the season before new Clipper forward Lamar Odom won the same award. With career averages of 15.3 points and 3.9 assists per game, Crawford is a well-known shooter and scorer. He has career shooting averages of 41% from the field and 35% from the field- not exactly a model of efficiency. Last season, his percentages drooped to 38% and 31%, respectively.

The Clippers also have interest in unrestricted free agent guards Ray Allen and Jason Terry.
