Well he didn't exactly say it, but you know the guy wants back in the big house. Wasn't Bush recently talking about this same issue? If Clinton could have run again would he have beaten Bush? I think he would have, Gore almost pulled it off, or did he---- ;)

Clinton Wants Change in Presidential Term Limits

BOSTON (Reuters) - Former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) said on Wednesday Congress should change the rule that barred him from seeking a third term in the White House, but stopped short of saying he wants to return as commander-in-chief.
Speaking at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum here, Clinton questioned certain aspects of the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prevents a person from being elected president more than twice.
Clinton said the amendment, passed after Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to a record fourth term, should be changed simply to keep a person from being elected to more than two consecutive terms as president.
"I think since people are living much longer ... the 22nd Amendment should probably be modified to say two consecutive terms instead of two terms for a lifetime," Clinton said.
The former president said such a change probably wouldn't apply to him but would benefit future generations.
"There may come a time when we elect a president at age 45 or 50, and then 20 years later the country comes up against the same kind of problems the president faced before," he said. "People would like to bring that man or woman back but they would have no way to do so."
Clinton, who left office in 2001, said he had "loved" his time as president but was also enjoying life outside the White House.
"I was surprised at how happy I was to have my life back," he said during a question-and-answer session with presidential historian Michael Beschloss.
Clinton said he was writing his memoirs, which were due to be published in the autumn of 2004, although he said they may be out before then.

Sad in that he was the one who brought it up? Absolutely.

Would he would be doing a better job than Junior on the economy? Definitely.

Would he would have beaten the crap out of Junior had he been running instead of Gore in 2000? Most definitely!

Now I don't buy that "wouldn't apply to me" bit for a second. Clinton/Clinton-2008 now that is a little scary.

What's been going on in the White House since 2000 is much, much scarier, since it involves innocent people losing their lives.

    Back on track...

What's so wrong about a third term? If people are happy with a two term president, why not allow four more years. Twelve years doesn't seem excessive.

Without applying this to a particular president, whether it be Clinton or Reagan, please comment on why you would be against allowing three terms rather than two.

Well my statement is more of a joke than anything, I don't think tying it in with "innocent people losing their lives" is really appropriate.

innocent people never lost their lives during the clinton administration?? tell that to the sudanese.

i'm betting clinton would have attacked iraq too. read his comments before he left office...in the wake of 9/11, he would have attacked iraq.

That alone would be worth his 3rd term, well that and Lettermen/Simpon's jokes. Clinton just has that special ability to make the world a better place through humor. :)

:D I just saw the Simpson's episode where he gives Lisa the pep talk at the end of the show. "Well i'm a horrible president" (or something like that) --finished with the close-up lip bite. So funny! :D

I wouldn't want a change to the 2-term limit because it is a cap on political corruption. You may have a president who is competent and that everyone likes just fine; but, if he hangs around too long and gets too comfortable with his position, he can take liberties with the office he would not otherwise take. At the very least, it would limit such corruption to 8 years and then the next president has to renew all the set-up work for his own racket.

Plus, moving away from corruption and complacency in the president for a moment, I think having a president too long encourages complacency in the population and government as well. Even if one administration is doing fine, it'd be good to get regular injections of new approaches and philosophies so we can continually fine-tweak and readjust to changing times.

Let's also amend the 22nd to say that if you have been impeached and brought shame upon the Office of the President, then it is your civil duty to stay out of the public spotlight when your term is over.

This will not get as far as the Reagan supporters attempt to do the same thing.

reagan supporters...but not reagan...i don't recall him making a sincere pitch for this...he joked about it...but he never said the country would be better off by scrapping the term limits.
