Has anyone heard any update today? Is it a tear? Or just a sprain? PCL, MCL, ACL?

Please post anything if you hear it. If Dempsey is out for the WC, my glass just changed from half full to half empty. Man, I hope he is not out.

I read this as Patrick Dempsey and I wondered what injury can a man get to keep him off a terrible TV show.

No news yet. Hopefully, it's just a sprain. Not looking good, though.

Losing Dempsey doesn't change my outlook, however. I'm one that gets sick of him turning it on and off. When he's off, he's either completely invisible or a detriment to the team by giving away stupid passes or holding the ball too much. He can be a great player when he's on, but he's got to learn to do it 90 minutes. If playing against Brazil and Italy can't get you up for a game, I don't know what will.

That said, it will affect the ability of the US to score if he's not there. W/o Charlie Davies, that means we're going to have to rely on the terrible Connor Casey to play significant minutes. That just sucks.

While I can't deny that he is on/off at times, it undoubtedly hurts our chances if he is out. I don't know that he has always been placed in the right position on the pitch to best utilize his skills, but nonetheless I am not denying that he disappears at times.

All of that said, he is my favorite player, and it will really suck if he missed the WC. Not many, if any, on the USMNT can create offensive chances like Dempsey, and with the Davies injury as well, losing Deuce would just really hurt us.

Injuries are stacking up. Looks like we could be missing at least 3 starters in the summer :(

Dempsey is the only player on team USA with the potential for moments of brilliance that could change games. This really sux.

I am hearing suspected PCL tear from my friends in the UK.....if that is the case it would BLOW....

This team is seriously short handed....

    A forward out - Davies
A mid fielder out - Dempsey
    A Sweeper out - Gooch

I mean....that is 3 of our best players, possibly all out for the WC...dang.

He also plays like crap sometimes. I'll be happy if we get out of group play. It's not looking good right about now..

Oh don't be a debbie downer...

Onyewu and Davies will be back in time for the WC. Onyewu was supposed to be out 6 months and that injury happened back in October. I believe both will work hard and be ready to go come June

Dempsey on the other hand, we will have to wait and see.

There's a chance he'll be back, he's walking on his own now. but rehabbing and getting back into game shape beforehand will be tough. If he's able to play 30 minutes and come on as a sub it would be great.

Hopefully the Dempsey news is good, he's got his issues but can be a real difference maker at times and we're better off with him as an option than not.

Game shape and World Cup level are two different things. I don't see how he's going to make it back to a level that would allow him a roster spot. He's going to have to get top level games in w/in the next 2 months. I sure as hell hope he proves me wrong, but I just don't think Charlie Davies will be on the 2010 WC roster.

Don't get me wrong, the US needs Dempsey. He seems to be more effective for the US up front. He should not be playing in the center mid as his mental lapses cost the team. You can't disappear from a game when you're playing in the middle. Ideally, he's a better outside mid where he gets more space to run at the defense. Unfortunately, that position also allows him to be lazy and hide for huge portions of games. Then again, he can hide out playing forward, too. I like Clint and his abilities are world class. I just wish he'd use them for 90 minutes.

    Take this fwiw...

    http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/152723/Fulham-s-Clint-Dempsey-vows-to-play-for-US-World-Cup?

FULHAM’S Clint Dempsey has told the US Soccer Federation to keep him in their plans for the World Cup this summer, despite suffering knee ligament damage in the 2-0 defeat by Blackburn at Ewood Park at the weekend.

Attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey will today receive the results of scans on his knee.

But he is banking on the damage being not as severe as was fi rst thought and is hopeful of facing England in the World Cup finals in South Africa this June.

Someone asked me about this today... same person told me Dempsey took himself out of the game and was the one asking for the sub:

    From GOAL.com:
Seems difficult to figure out.
Your signature looks mighty tasty now, sir...

    :p

Relax. Teams have been known to "step up" their game... even without their "best."

I agree with you completely, he's one of those players that you don't notice for 89 minutes and then he scores a goal out of nowhere. It's frustrating because you can't help but wonder what sort of impact he would have if he played to hs potential the whole time. I haven't watched many Fulham games but it seems that he's really progressed for them this season, hopefully he's figuring out what he needs to do.

That's great news. That report didn't say, but I'm guessing it is just a sprained PCL?
