Just heard this on ESPN Radio. If the Knicks and Cavs can come to an agreement, maybe Cleveland can come up with enough cash to retain Boozer. According to the report, the Knicks are offering Kurt Thomas, but need to include another player FOR CAP REASONS.

It seems like we could get in on this. Zydrunas Ilgauskas would make a great 3 man rotation with Yao and Juwon. That would definitely solidify our backcourt.

I know Z's name has been kicked around here, but this report is confirmation that the Cavs are willing to shop him around.

Are the Knicks below the salery cap? If not how can they help Cleveland clear any salery cap space since they would have to send Cleveland as much salery as Cleveland sends them. Or...do they have a Trade Exception?

I honestly don't know if the Knicks are under the cap, but my guess would be HIGHLY unlikely. I guess I'm looking at this more from a perspective of "Z is available" than one of "let's help the Cavs get under the cap".

But if we can get Z and they can get under the cap, maybe everybody wins.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought I read somewhere that NY was way OVER the cap. The only way I can see the Cavs saving money and helping them out is if what the Knicks give them just hits the within %15 salary match, and that 15% equals the $10 mil. or so they would need to keep Boozer.

Z is not a backup, he wants a max deal, and considers himself a "franchise center"... (even though he has bad feet and legs - and only played one full season).

he also would want the same spot on the floor as Yao.

of course if they are giving him away... (see the Paul Pierce thread)

I'd like to see the Cavs block Utah, from getting Boozer.

That would certainly help our chances next season.

Z would be a very good trade asset I would think. There are plenty of Teams that would love to have him. Dallas or L.A. come to mind.

Maybe we could trade Z for Odom or Butler plus a SnT with Fisher. Or maybe to Dallas for Howard and Walker.

If we could do it, then why wouldn't the Cavs instead of giving him to us? Odom could play the 4 like he did for the Heat and they get a quality pg.

Getting Thomas for our trade exception would be great.

Can we get in on a 3-way deal and still use the TE?

What if we offered a player to the Knicks and then offer the TE to the Cavs?

I know the trade exception can't be used in combination with a player, but how does that work in a 3-team deal?

I think the Cavs want Boozer and not Odom at the 4 since Odom is much more suited for the 3

It's not like I'm dreamcasting this trade. The trade with the Knicks appears to be about to go down. I don't really consider Kurt Thomas to be a superstar by any stretch, and thus, it seems like we could get in on the action.

As for wanting the max, he's still under contract for 2 more years, and he could be a nice temporary solution, freeing up a lot of cap room in a couple of seasons.

I'm just saying, the Cavs could reasonably fill their few hole with a 'Z' trade, why would they just throw him away for nothing. Besides, from what I have read today, they are looking for replacements at the 4.

    Umm...how good is your math?

    Here's a way it works:

    New York sends:
    $66.67 million in salary

    Cleveland sends:
    $76.67 million in salary

That's how much salary would have to be transferred from one team to another for the 15% rule to allow Cleveland to clear $10 million in salary. And unfortunately, Cleveland is about $30 million shy of that on their entire team.

crash- The Knicks have Allan Houston, Shandon Anderson, and Moochie Norris on their roster. New York under the cap is like the Clippers over the cap. ;)

This is not a deal they make if they're keeping Boozer. It replaces Boozer. Diop moves to starting center, Thomas at the starting 4, and Battie backs up both.

Moochie may head to Chicago for the Crawford deal.
In less than a season, he will finish the tour of 3 of the four biggest cities.
Is Rudy still infatuated with him? That would make LA the next destination after Chicago :D

if NY is reportedly sending Kurt and Nasr + filler then maybe we could be the middle man taking mohammed for the TE?

The Knicks were roughly $50,000,000.00 over the cap before Thomas took over. He has been on a spending spree since, confusing activity for progress.

I think Isiah Thomas is going to Bankrupt the Knicks. He's a complete bonehead. But then again, as long as he's not running the show in Houston, I could care less.
