Cleveland TV Station: Gooden Swapped For Jaric
    23rd July, 2005 - 8:58 am
    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/36758/20050723/cleveland_tv_station_gooden_swapped_for_jaric/

19 Action News In Cleveland, Ohio - Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden has been rumored to be on the block and yet again it appears he has been traded.

19 Actions News in Cleveland, Ohio reported on it's newscast last night that Gooden would be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers with guard Marko Jaric being signed and traded to Cleveland along with prehaps forward Chris Wilcox being included in the deal.

If Gooden is indeed traded, the Clippers would behis 4th team in as many seasons.

    ###

WOW, if the Cavs pulled off this deal. Props to Ferry. For them to be able to trade Gooden to fill their need at PG with Jaric and then even as a side bonus of getting Wilcox? Wow.

From the Clippers side, this would show you how far Wilcox has fallen into Dunleavy's doghouse. The Clippers in this scenario would basically be able to get something for nothing in getting Gooden for Jaric since Jaric was leaving anyway.

If the Cavs did this then they would be adding Hughes, Marshall, Jaric and Wilcox to their team (plus a resigned Z) and only losing Gooden!

My god....the league is just handing Lebron a contending team. If Hughes and Jaric can consistantly knock down their 3's next year, I predict a James v. Wade WCF.

Stern would have an orgasm if this happened.

That's why the Clippers deserve their name: "The Clippers"

I would take Wilcox over Gooden. Not because of ability, but because Drew is a little mentally challenged. Nice guy though

The Cavaliers get rid of a player that was not in their plans (and shouldn't be in any team's plans) and they get back two really good players. Can't beat that. I was saying that the only reason Ferry is making good moves is because he's got a ton of money to spend, but this latest move is the best of all.

Cavs will find a way to meltdown halfway through the season.

damn, that is a solid team. Why trade Gooden? he averaged 14/9 last season, pretty solid for a PF. Not as good as Boozer's numbers in Cleveland, but damn, even I wouldnt mind having him.

They are basically surrounding James with shooters, with Marshall and Jaric. I would say thats a good season for the Cavs, then again, as stated above, they will somehow found a way to meltdown.

Does anyone think they will exercise the amnesty clause on Snow, and sign Jasekevicius as well?

    PG: Jaric, Jasekevicius
    SG: Hughes
    SF: Lebron, Varejo
    PF: Wilcox, Marshall
    C: Big Z

On paper, that team is pretty good. Props to Ferry is the rumors are true.

I can't believe this trade will happen. If Danny Ferry pulls it off, Cleveland can officially forgive him for being the main reason they went from championship contenders to the dumpster in the early 90s. Because of LJ, I want the Cavs to do well. Their franchise has been so sorry for so long it's a breath of fresh air to see them contend. Go Cavs, except when you play the Pacers.

I doubt they sign Sarnus if they get Jaric. Marshall should start over Wilcox and damn Danny Ferry is a good GM if this is true. Clippers have a stud in Shawn Livingston so they don't need Jaric. Wilcox is a great talent but they didn't he just get arrested for having a gun. Gooden is a solid player who may play the 5 versus some teams.

Ditto. Gooden is one of the least reliable guys you could have as a starter. Doesn't bring it more than two or three nights a week. Dropping him is addition by subtraction for the Cavs.

I don't know if I buy Jaric as a point, though. He's got ability, but I don't know if he's a solid floor leader. Maybe with James facilitating the offense, it's not going to be a big issue.

Ferry is certainly making a splash.

    Haha yeah oops.

Well, like some other of our "special" members have suggested, we could get Lebron for T-mac and a 1st. Then he would be in the WC.

Gooden has some issues, but has been fairly productive. Wilcox is only one year younger, was also a lottery pick. He also was billed as a great athlete and shot blocker, yet Gooden blocks more shots and gets a lot more rebounds along with his offensive production. Wilcox to this point is less proven than Eddie Griffin, calling him a bust is pretty on target.

So it is basically Jaric for Gooden.

I think the Cavs are going to have real problems with interior defense. I don't seem them playing the defense of the Pistons or Heat (and maybe Pacers) that it will take to advance far in the playoffs. The Nets will have a similar problem.

The Cavs look formidable for the regular season though.

Where are they going to get the cap room to pull all of this off? They can't sign Hughes, Ilgauskas, Marshall, Jasikevicius, and get Wilcox and Jaric (via S&T) with the cap room that they had...the salaries just don't match up. Their cap room was only about $25m...the first three players on that list take most of it up. Something has to give, and unless Jaric is being traded for near the minimum, this trade doesn't work cap-wise (even given the new rules). I'm not even sure they'll have Jasikevicius, either.

I take it to mean Jasikevicius is going to Utah, definetly not a Cav if this goes through.

They can trade for Wilcox alone which fits under their cap, than basically Gooden (4mil x up to 1.2) is traded Jaric. Don't know if this is done in one simulatanous or two seperate ones, but Jaric essentially can get close if not surpassing a full MLE this route.

with all these moves, it looks like Danny Ferry has already surpassed Zeke's ability as a GM.

I read on hoopshype.com that the rumor was false.
