http://www.newsaskew.com/includes/feature.shtml?id=EpAFyyyEFVkCoZyGPK&style=single The first Clerks is a classic. I watch the movie AT LEAST once a month and still get a crack out of it. The tenth anniversary edition is coming out next week along with the underrated Jersey Girl (as long as you forget the whole Bennifer fiasco, this movie is GREAT!).
There were so many classic lines from that film it was unreal. But does it need a sequel? Hmmmmm...........
BEST LINE EVER! Lil Pun, you should give it a chance. The only setback of the movie is that its in black and white.
Sweet, I can't wait to see this. I've got the animated series, love it. It would awesome if Leonardo Leonardo makes a brief appearence. I heard he was supposed to be voiced by Alan Rickman, but Alec Baldwin did a great job. Anyways, I see Clerks often on IFC, so I never bothered to get the DVD, but now that I know there's a 10th anv. edition coming out, I'll be sure to pick that up. Whoa, only $35 to get a signed copy of the new 3 disc set over at Jay and Silent Bob's secret stash.
I like Clerks, but didn't the guy pledge never to do the whole Askewniverse thing again? Jersey Girl must have really wrecked his rep in Hollywood.
Given that in the aftermath of Jersey Girl, he was given the writing and directing chores on the highest budgeted Miramax movie ever, I don't think Jersey Girl ruined his reputation. From reading some interviews, it seems to me like Smith is having something of a midlife crisis. I think part of that was fueled by the relative failure of Jersey Girl. He just sounds like a guy who's a little turned off by the movie biz right now and wanted to get back to what it was like when he was starting out (like with Clerks or even the experience of the modestly-budgeted Chasing Amy) and enjoying what he was doing. I think there's a level of wanting to do something "safe", too, to get back into his wheelhouse after Jersey Girl not being received as well as he would've liked. As for not doing the Askewniverse stuff anymore, he backed off that some time ago. He's talked more recently about Jason Mewes drug problems being part of the reason he gave up the characters. I had heard about the small project he was doing, but I never would've guessed it was a 'Clerks 2' movie. I don't know why that didn't occur to me.
It should have. Smith has been toying with sequelizing Clerks forever. The credits at the end of "Dogma" indicates the next film would be "Clerks 2: Hardly Clerkin'" "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" also started life as that sequel, and one or two other times he has publicly toyed with it. Smith has said he wanted to try his hand at "filming" in HD, and "Clerks 2" is the perfect project for him to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the format.
[Jay impression] Bring it the f*ck on, mother d*ck sucking b*tches. [/Jay impression] I can't freaking wait. I love Kevin Smith; he's a badass mammajamma.
Clerks: the Animated Series is/was awesome. If you haven't seen any episodes, I suggest you pick the DVD up. Totally worth it. (Pssst. That should be..."Try not to suck any dick on the way to the parking lot!")
I saw DareDevil ( yack!) the other day, and the only part I liked was when Kevin Smith came out. I dont know why, but as soon as he turned his chair I couldnt stop laughing. The way he talked and chewed his gum was just hysterical to me. Besides that I think most of his movies have been funny, but not great like the followers would have you believe.
I think pretty much everything he's done since Clerks has pretty much sucked. J & SB Strike Back might very well be the worst movie of all-time. I must say though that I'm surprised Jason Mewes was available for this one- I'm sure that guy is in pretty high demand.
