http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/0130072clemson1.html JANUARY 30--Along with questionable racially-themed college parties in Texas and Connecticut, students at Clemson University in South Carolina dressed in blackface for a party they dubbed "Living the Dream" and which came a day before the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Photos from the off-campus bash were posted on Facebook.com and then yanked when fellow students protested. Four of the pictures can be found on the following pages. Attendees at the January 14 party drank from 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor, which were duct-taped to their hands. Additionally, some female partygoers stuffed their pants to make their backsides look larger, while other students wore gold teeth, or grills. In an e-mail sent today to students, Clemson President James Barker said that he was "appalled, angered, and disappointed" upon learning of the party, which he said "appeared to mock and disparage African-Americans." He added that a school investigation has been launched to determine whether university policies were violated.
For some reason, that made me laugh...I dont' know what duct tape has to do with anything...As for the butts, they're doing butt implants now...Besides..."I like big butts and I cannot lie"...
It's called Edward 40 hands and we used to do that back at the frat house. We also had "hip hop" parties, not a big deal
What do you expect from a bunch of bottom of the barrel white-trash hicks? These guys are probably going to get there asses kicked by some big black dudes.
If I had a Star Wars costume party: a white guy could put on green face paint for Yoda put red makeup fro Admiral Akbar (its a trap!) but could he wear darker makeup to be Lando? just wondering about the rules...
So thats what the future of white america still thinks of us, didn't see any doctors, ceo's or biochemist looking costumes...
So, you're a "nancy" if you don't think white people should paint themselves black in an attempt to mock a race on the weekend of MLK's birthday. Ooohkay. You're about 40 years behind the times, brother. Blackface has been taboo for a looooong time. I'm guessing blackbody as well. No one who thinks things like this are A-OK has answered this, but where do you draw the line?
Why does there have to be a line? Why are some things not OK to make fun of? Along the lines of your question why is this not OK but other things are OK to make fun of? What makes something not OK to make fun of? I'm not endorsing their viewpoints because I don't agree with them but I mean they didn't break any laws or anything.
