http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2397288 He felt fine after the World Baseball Classic and left the tournament impressed by the quality of the international teams -- and the devotion of the Japanese and South Korean fans. Remembering back to a Japan-South Korea game in Anaheim, Calif., Clemens said he took clothes to a dry cleaners and was told he wouldn't get them back for nearly a week. "They said, 'You've got no chance,' they told me," Clemens said. "I said, 'I'm going to get it tomorrow, right?' And then she goes, `No chance, we're going to the game.' So we couldn't get dry cleaning done out there, but I guess the neatest thing about them was there were about 50,000 of them at Anaheim Stadium, Korea and Japan. "Even in Arizona, when we played Mexico there, it was so festive. It really makes you sit back and realize our game is played the right way in a number of different countries." Did anyone notice how ESPN changed this article to clarify Clemen's comments. I remember the day they came out with this article, it was on the front page and read somewhere along the lines of "Clemens gets ring, makes insensitive comments." Funny stuff.
Yeah, that is totally different than the "insensitive comment" that he reportedly made. After I read that espn story yesterday, I was wondering why it wasn't causing more of an outrage - but I guess the reason is that it never happened. That, or ESPN is covering for our hometown boy bigtime.
I too, thought it was a joke or something, because I was surprised at the free pass Rocket was getting in the Houston media. I listened to sports radio most of the day and didnt hear a word and was kind of surprised. But I posted yesterday that I thought Clemens was more savvy than his alleged comments. Apparently he is.
Lance Zerlein coughed his way through discussing it yesterday morning. I'm not really hearing anything offensive in what he said.
I'm guessing it was the "we couldn't get any dry cleaning done out there" implying that all dry cleaners are Korean or Japanese. I don't think he meant it in a negative way at all, which is why this shouldn't even be a story.
