I notice some people were talking about it, and saw it that was available here.

So, I was wondering if anyone here have their service, and if so if is good?

    Internet That's Always with You

Clearwire is covering cities with super fast internet, so that you can stream TV, watch movies, play online games and video chat on the go and at home

It claims to run on 4G network ... with speed of 3-6 Mbps download.

So do you get a device for home internet use? and a usb for your laptop?

I was about to start a thread about this actually. I was at the mall recently when I was in Houston and they had a Clearwire booth. The guy told me I could get the Clearwire internet service at home plus a wireless anywhere card for 55 bucks total per month. That seems like a phenomenal deal.

Didn't know what the downsides to this service was.

All I know is that Clearwire runs on WIMAX and it never really took off in the States like it was predicted to.

Somebody started a thread about it in here a while back, but I thought it was somebody in Dallas because Houston didn't have it yet. I noticed Houston got it a few weeks ago when I was looking to get a connection or my parents' house. I decided against it when it looked like they could only get a max of something like 0.5 megabit speeds. lol. I wish it were available in more locations around the nation. It's only available in a few states, I think.

My boss in Dallas tried out clearwire. Lets just say he never got the connection he was promised and speeds were well below advertised. The download speed is ok, but once you do anything using any upstream, forget about it. He had it cancelled a month after trying it. They'll also hassle you into keeping it by sending out more and more technicians to say they'll "fix" the problem. The problem is that its just not fast enough to do anything significant, maybe only email and facebook.

Clearwire sucks. When I lived in east texas, it was the only service available at my apartments. It's slow. They also sent me an email saying I was using too much bandwidth.

That's a shame; Sprint/Novatel MiFi ($70/Month) just cuts out the connection anytime I download torrents. Did they give you a required bandwidth, or threaten to cut off your service or anything?

I specifically asked about torrents to the Clearwire guy. He said that I could do the exact same type of downloading I do with Comcast. Then I asked him if unlimited really meant unlimited bandwith or is it capped at like 50 GB a month. He said it was truly unlimited. There is a booth at First Colony mall you can visit with more info.

I had Clearwire about 3 years ago in my apartment and needless to say I was very disappointed in the service. At the time I was only paying 30.xx a month but in the end it just wasn't worth it. I couldn't play Xbox Live, and browsing the internet felt like a glorified dial up connection.

Granted this was around the time Clearwire just started getting its serive out so who knows now. Buts thats what was my deal.

Isn't Sprint bringing 4G to Houston soon?

The HTC 4G Droid is coming out June 6th I believe.

Sprint4g has already been in Houston for about months now. Same time Clear released their service.

I've been a Clear user since the beginning and I love IT!!!!! I have the $55 monthly (USB Modem + a Home Modem). Basically I bought this for work and for mobility. I keep the Home Modem at my work which gets a great signal and I'm getting 10.5 down and 2.5 up. The USB modem on the other hand gets half of that even though I'm standing in the same spot. But it could because of the Antenna strength on those little USB sticks.

I was originally going to get the overdrive from Sprint and tested it on the 1st day. OMG it was horrible (maybe because of the initial launch day it was getting hammerd) But I couldn't stand it and when I saw a Clear Kiosk at the mall the Sales rep convinced me it was different.. So I gave it a shot and thank god I did because I constantly use it (Like right now). So I won't get busted at work for using their network.

My own laptop + My own internet connection at work = WIN!

I'v ran games (Starcraft2, WoW, COD4, Netflix, Bitorrent (Can d/l a whole movie 750mb in less than 1hour) without any problems.. I love Clear but only because I'm in areas where it works for me.

Check out AntennaSearch.com to see the cell towers.. It's a slow site because it brings up every single antenna approved by the government setup for all businesses.

Sprint has a significant ownership stake in Clear, and the 4G that Sprint offers originates from the same WiMax towers that Clear uses. Hence, Sprint's 4G (sic) is currently operational.

I used to work for clearwire/clear. Stay away. as more people sign up for the product, the signal strength and speeds will get diluted. I worked for them for two and a half years and we used 2 other ISPs for the office. Even our demo computer was not running the clearwire product.

I signed up for the $55 / month plan.. And originally Leased my equipment but wanted to go month to month.. So I called them up and bought both my USB modem + Home Mode for $142 + change and was moved to month2month (Otherwise if you lease your on a 2 yr contract). MY last month bill was $59.XX so far so good.

Bumping this because I got a letter from Earthlink saying they'll honor the 250gb Comcast cap. It's a high cap, but it's the principle of the thing (that and my speeds have been crap the past few months).

Gonna have to check this one out. That deal looks so good for what you're getting.

What kind of speed are you getting (i.e. downloading, torrent, ping)? And do you have access to ESPN3 w/ Clear?

I realize this thread is 1.5 years old, but just wanted to share my experience with Clear (formerly Clearwire) at home. I pay $65/month for internet and phone service. Because I have a tower located vclose to my modem, I get better than average performance.

My RSSI is around -53 dBm and my CINR about 32 dB.

My average speeds throughout the day:

    [Download]
    1.22 MBps (megabytes per second)
    9.75 mbps (megabits per second)
    1220 KBps (kilobytes per second)

    [Upload]
    .125 MBps (megabytes per second)
    1 mbps (megabits per second)
    125 KBps (kilobytes per second)
