Hi folks. another israeli guy here but no worries I'm not gonna 'leach' on you guys' board or anything ,and I'm not a COF for the simple reason I don't regard the dude highly. Anyway I was just roaming here out of curiosity as to what Rockets fans think of the Casspi's signing, and I noticed the lot of the israeli Casspi cheerleaders jumping on the Houston wagon while spitting lies and disinformation about their sweetheart. Considering americans have watched Casspi play in the US with their own eyes for the past 4 years, I would think deceiving them about his non existing skills should be impossible. You don't need me to tell you the guy can't dribble to save his life. You don't need me to know he may be 'open court' fast, in an obvious type of way, but in a set offence his first step is so slow and clumsy it shouldnt be regarded as a 'first' in anything. you don't need me to know his shooting declining every years since his rookie season. and that he put of a lot of weight. and not muscle weight filks. just fat. check out pictures of his arms from his early Sac days, and pics from his last season with the Cavs. You don't need me to know the man can't play defense. not cause he can't, but because he doesnt really feel like it. he'll gamble on the occasional pass and steal the occasional ball, but most of the times he'll just give his man the open lane or the easy jumper. depends on what his opponent prefers. and may i remind you that in most games he played against the other team's bench. The only thing you might not know is that Casspi persona is perhaps the biggest problem he carries. the guy is convinced he's much better than he really is and has zero self awareness. He always thinks someone else is to blame for his problems and never seem to take responsibility. In all fairness Casspi does bring a couple of good things to the table. he moves pretty good without the ball compared to most american players. a good PG could probably find him for a couple of easy buckets a game. the 2nd good thing about him is that he plays much better when it's on a wining team. But sadly, if a team plans an even semi-important role for Casspi, that team's not going anywhere. Anyway I apologize for the long post. hope you guys have a great season. I'm gonna go now and watch The Last Posse with the great Broderick Crawford.
Cool screen name. Speak Spanish much? And thanks for the analysis. If it were for amything more than the vet minimum I'm sure we would all flip our lids but we trust Morey and will see if he somehow bounces back or ends up just being a half season casualty.
Thanks for the post bro. Tbh, our GM is a brilliant MIT genius dude who routinely does stuff like this with small team friendly deals that result in productive roleplayers giving solid minutes. I don't get this one at all, but i'm well past trying to question Morey. He and his staff probably looked at some advanced breakdown of his shooting habits, saw that while his 3p% is shaky it's actually because of blah blah blah, whereas the real number you need to look at given the Rockets current situation is the 3p% under blah blah blah conditions. Cavs are bad and he had to create his own shots instead of take open 3s or he had to make panicked last second shots etc. etc. Probably something like that.
As for a min vet player like Casspi, u can't expect too much, if he can grow with the team, his gift will help this team, otherwise let him go
Thank you kind sir I try not get sucked into these message boards in fear of my ever dwindling social life.
Well this makes me feel better about picking him up... Thanks for the info though, didn't know too much about him so it's good to know something now.
Nah, I speak some Italian and the nick is the name of a movie by an Italian director I really like, Dario Argento.
Noted. But having your own observations are, of course, still needed. Nice post Profondo Rosso and welcome to the club
Oh I don't doubt your GM at all. I'm just hoping for his and yours sake that Casspi would be nothing more than a 11-12 guy on the roster. See, I'm ashamed to say I watched a lot of Cavs games in the last couple of years (international league pass would do that to you) and I saw exactly how Casspi 'improved' his stats. it was mostly during blowouts where in the last 2-3 minutes, when everyone's shifting to a lower gear, Casspi brings out his A game and starts filling up the stat sheet ( yes, I am bursting in laughter at this point)
I'm going off what I saw in Sac when he was productive and I saw potential. What I believed happened was his confidence took a hit being around unprofessionals.
With all due respect to the OP, I don't know why we should value his opinion of Casspi over anyone else's. I'm always ready to read another opinion, though.
