anyone ever seen this before? "In Africa animals are used to clear mine fields." Wonder if this is fake.....can't tell. http://youtube.com/watch.php?v=XFltpgnosjo
Real or not, that stuff does happen with field animals. While traveling, if you're walking in the fields somewhere with mutilated animals, it might just be a mine field.... Though wrong, how is that different than using animals to test drugs or cosmetics?
Though it's not analagous, the US still uses dogs to detect and clear mine fields. A lot of animal rights groups make a stink about it.
There's also a Belgan company that has started using African giant pouch rats to detect mines, and they're working on using bees.
PETA should have a "field day" with this. As long as the carcasses are used for food afterwards, I see no problem with this. Much cheaper than people trying to fish them out.
Is there a PETA in Africa? Even if there was one, I don't think the people would care about it. They have bigger problems to worry about.
I would gladly subsitute any mine detecting dog, cat, cow or bee with a PETA member any day of the week.
As long as they're not using endangered species, it is cool with me. Better animals dying of this stuff than humans. And of course, it is best if we all stop using mines altogether. (see my sig.)
That looks fake. And the use of rats, dolphins, bees is to detect and locate the mines correct? Not to trigger the mine and blow themselves up.
