Has this place opened yet (in Clear Lake)? I'm pretty excited about it...and I'm not even a huge asian food fan. Lettuce Wraps....yummy!!! Has anyone eaten at a Pei Wei before? Do they have decent lunch specials? I'm psyched!!!
http://www.peiwei.com/ Website says that a new location in Clear Lake is set to officially open in September but when I took a look at it with my own eyes a few days ago it did not look open as of yet. Looked about 90% complete to me when I was driving down Bay Area & I-45.
Had Pei Wei at the North Austin location yesterday. The real value is in the $6 dishes. Try the Pad Thai or Dan Dan Noodles.
Pei Wei : Chinese Food as _________ : Mexican Food a. Taco Bell b. Del Taco c. Taco Time d. All of the above Ok, your right, that's not fair... they attempt other asian food as well. What the Pho?
There's a couple of Pei Wei's here in Dallas. I believe they're owned by the same people that run PF Chang's. Some people here love them, others say it's a bit pricey. I haven't found anyone that says it's bad.
I think it's supposed to be PF Chang's Lite. They appear to have similar dishes, but I think Pei Wei is aimed a bit more towards the fast food crowd. Nonetheless, there are several decent Chinese buffets here in Clear Lake...Tokyo Bowl is pretty good...I was just hoping for something fresh. My wife likes Oriental Gormet...which to me, is like Chinese Taco Bell (buffet style).
hahaha... every once in a while you come up with a funny post... but when it's funny, it's really pretty funny.
OK...that was a little off target...the old OG was pretty lame. They did do a lot of work to upgrade their buffet once they moved into the new facility. On that note...I remember going to Connexion/Piggy Bank Pub or whatever club that used to be in building. OG in the CL...now I'm gettin' hungry!
Pei Wei is pretty decent for a fast asian inspired meal. The people who did PF Changs did a really nice job for a chain, and Pei Wei is an offshoot. I prefer a bit more authenticity, but most Chinese restaurants in the Houston area are pretty much Americanized anyway. Sweet and sour chicken seems to be the most popular dish at all of these places. Does anyone know of any really authentic Asian places in the Clear Lake area? Thai Seafood and Bay Thai are both pretty good. Tokyo Bowl--depsite the ridiculous name, is good.
Well I remember seeing A LOT of movies there, when it is was a theater, from mid '70s through the early '80s. I grew up just a couple of blocks from the place. As a kid, my freinds and I would dig through the dumpster to find countless free movie tabs on the used drink cups. Good times...
I know it's not totally authentic, but I really like Hans Mongolian BBQ. You get to totally customize your noodles.
I like Ichibon's at Happy Hour. Everything is half off. Octopus sushi is my fav. The owners of the Tokyo Bowl used to live next door to me for years. They are nice people. Never got around to eating there though. There is a new Vietnamese place right north of the Beltway. I ate there last week. Forgot the name. It was nice, a lot like Kim Son. The Garlic Shrimp was incredible.
So true. We got those Chinese Fast Food Chains in LA, and everyone's fav is Orange Chicken. I'm like WTF? I never even had orange chicken until I came here. Customizable Mongolian BBQ rocks. There's this place down the street from me that's gives you a bowl and a sheet of grease paper. The object is to stuff the bowl with as much meat, noodles, and vegetables as you possibly can and to use the grease paper to help you push down on it without getting dirty. You can get as much as you fit on top of that bowl. I used to try to pack on a towersized mountain of food, but after a couple times I realized that I just can't eat that much. Too bad it's only open during regular business hours on weekdays, so I don't get to eat there that much.
That's another place with a ridiculous name that's actually pretty good. It's similar to a PF Changs. I recommend their Thai Fried rice, lemongrass chicken, and special won ton soup as well.
Pei Wei is okay for a fast food style asian restaurant. I have tried the Spicy Chicken(which I don't particularly care for) and the Chicken Pad Thai(which is pretty good I think). I don't necessarily like the lettuce wraps all that much but their edible . I need to try some of their other dishes. It's definitely a good restaraunt to have in the vicinity.
Mongolian BBQs are awesome. There's a small one near the Hot Wok in Webster that's pretty tasty, but I prefer to head to the much larger China One over in Texas City by the Mall of the Mainland. I always end up eating abour twice as much food as is really smart.
