I don't know about most of you, but I've always had trouble keeping my place tidy. I saw this, thought it was a pretty damn good way of handling it, and figured I'd pass it along. http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/home/clean-your-house-in-19-minutes-269031/ With a plan of attack, you can maintain a sparkling house in just 19 minutes a day Kitchen, 4 1/2 minutes daily Always start with the sink. A sparkling sink becomes your kitchen's benchmark for hygiene and tidiness, inspiring you to load the dishwasher immediately and keep counters, refrigerator doors, and the stove top spick-and-span, too. Wipe down the sink after doing the dishes or loading the dishwasher (30 seconds). Wipe down the stove top (one minute). Wipe down the counters (one minute). Sweep, Swiffer, or vacuum the floor (two minutes). Bathroom, 2 minutes daily Make cleaning the basin as routine as washing your hands. But don't stop there. Get the most out of your premoistened wipe by using it to clean around the edges of the tub and then the toilet before tossing it. Wipe out the sink (30 seconds). Wipe the toilet seat and rim (15 seconds). Swoosh the toilet bowl with a brush (15 seconds). Wipe the mirror and faucet (15 seconds). Squeegee the shower door (30 seconds). Spray the entire shower and the curtain liner with shower mist after every use (15 seconds). Bedroom, 6 1/2 minutes daily Make your bed right before or after your morning shower. A neat bed will inspire you to deal with other messes immediately. Although smoothing sheets and plumping pillows might not seen like a high priority as you're rushing to work, the payoff comes at the end of the day, when you slip back under the unruffled covers. Make the bed (two minutes). Fold or hang clothing and put away jewelry (four minutes). Straighten out the night-table surface (30 seconds). Family Room, Living Room, Foyer, 6 minutes daily Start with the sofa -- as long as it's in disarray, your living room will never look tidy. Once you've fluffed the pillows and folded the throws, you're halfway home. If you pop in a CD while you dust, you should be able cover the whole room by the end of the third track. Pick up crumbs and dust bunnies with a handheld vacuum (one minute). Fluff the cushions and fold throws after use (two minutes). Wipe tabletops and spot-clean cabinets when you see fingerprints (one minute). Straighten coffee-table books and magazines. Throw out newspapers. Put away CDs and videos. (Two minutes.)
19 minutes? This is total BS unless you live in a tiny apartment. It would take me over 4 1/2 minutes to PROPERLY clean off all the counters in the kitchen.
Agreed. Someone who can do the job better and more efficient than you ends up saving you time and money in the long run.
19 minutes? I spend about 10-15 minutes every night keeping the kitchen clean, I can't stand dirty dishes. On the weekends, I clean the restrooms and that takes me about 15 minutes. It would take me, maybe 30 minutes to clean the living room and the bedroom... I'm kinda a neat freak.
Interesting ideas, and a little inspiration to those of us who don't usually do stuff on a daily basis to maybe take a few minutes here and there. I don't think it could be only 19 minutes, though. There's no time allowed for "get out the sweeper and wipes", "move everything out of the way", "decide what to do with stuff that doesn't have a designated place yet", "scrub spots that won't wipe off so easily", "figure out where this or that goes". Actually some of that ultra-tidy stuff sounds depressing. Clean bathroom and kitchen surfaces are great, but I like the living room to feel like I could actually live there. No point in putting away stuff you're going to get right back out and use again, especially if there aren't any guests coming over. (same with making bed IMO)
I clean once a week, maybe every other week...Most of the time it's just me and I keep my place very clean...but I can't see myself cleaning everyday... Now I do wipe down the stove and counters after I cook, clean the dishes and the table after I eat...I do also wipe the seat down every other day due to my OCD tendencies... I just find that the ladies would rather be in a cleaner place and puts their minds at ease when they don't have to worry about the Whatburger bags and Shipleys donut boxes laying around...
Word. (Actually, I tidy up quite a bit during the week.) I pay my sister $100/month to really clean twice. (That may be below market, I don't know.) It's the best money that I spend.
I always make my bed as soon as I wake up. For some reason if I dont I still feel tired. Making it just reminds me that the night is over and time for work/school. Plus coming back home and getting in a fresh neat bed after a nice shower. emmm nothin better.
Anyone on here have a Roomba or a Scooba? Those things are awesome. I was skeptical at first, but they keep the floors clean, plus, they keep my son entertained for hours on end.
6 minute abs and 18 minutes house clean-up...combined customer testimonials: "It worked for me. My gut is as big as ever...and I got the kids cleaning!"
You want to know the secret to keeping you place clean? (This is coming from a guy who keeps his place basically immaculate, btw): Clean up as things get dirty! No joke, it's that simple. It always confuses me when people can't understand how to keep things clean when it is really that easy (though some people are lazy or just don't care that they are slobs). You can tell the areas where my roommate hangs out because they are just generally disorganized - she just throws her stuff around instead of actually putting it away. Put things back away immediately when you use them. Have a place for them. Clothes in the hamper, shoes in the closet when you take them off, books on the bookshelf, papers in drawers, etc. Clean your dishes right after you use them. Personally, I have found cleaning any piled up dishes while you are in the process of cooking your food works well...Example: cooking an omelet? Wash a few dishes while it is cooking. If you use a dishwasher, put dishes in there right away and keep your counter tops clean. If you do these little things, you can keep your house extremely clean on a week-to-week basis. Since everything else is already clean, you'll only need to do a quick sweep of the bathroom, vacuum the house, and wipe down surfaces (tables, desks, counters, etc), and clean the floors every 1-4 weeks as needed.
if you hire a maid because you're just too busy then thats fine, but if you have time to clean but too lazy to do it then ur an azzclown!
