I've been trying in the last few years to go back and watch all the movies I've never seen because I didn't see them when they were first released or I wasn't born when they were first released. To be honest, I've been disappointed with a great deal of them. The most disappointing was the one I just watched. To Kill a Mockingbird What're your's?
I've tried to watch Citizen Kane two times and feel asleep each time. I hope to one day finish the movie though to see why it's the "greatest film of all-time."
A History of Our Time Gone With the Wind At least in Gone With the Wind the KKK doesn't come in to save the day at the end.
Birth of a Nation was one of the worst possible movies made of all time. Yeah it was a pioneering movie, but that shouldn't give it a free pass onto AFI's 100 greatest flicks
citizen kane would have to be mine. it was ok but will never never ever understand why its suppost to be the best ever. although i did like the guys fireplace.
Don't know if it's a classic, but I can't get into The Usual Suspects despite all the raving I hear over it.
Silence of the lambs. What a pos that was. Didn't like the exorcist either. Scary for old religious prudes. Not me. Is Titanic a "classic"? I know a lot of people liked that one. More crap.
Probably not considered a classic. But I just can't make it through "Blade Runner". I've tried several times.
The Lord of the Rings movies. I've tried and tried to get into these movies but I just can't. I don't know why since I'm usually into that kinda crap.
That's funny, because I thought Goodfellas was a pale attempt by Scorcese to create his own Godfather. The only difference is that the Godfather was brilliant and Goodfellas was an aesthetically ugly and predictable borefest. Other guilty dislikes: Unforgiven (what was the plot?) Any Woody Allen film (to be fair, I still haven't seen Annie Hall
I'm doing the same thing with Netflix. Some of these old movies I watched when I was a kid but didn't get all of the double entendres. Liberty Valence, High Noon and To Kill a Mockingbird are vaguely unsatisfying. I hated Forrest Gump and It's a Wonderful Life.
since i've never seen casablanca nor citizen kane, i can't comment on them but i'd bet everything i have i'd hate citizen kane. any movie that i hear getting high praise for cinematography most likely equals borefest for me. casablanca, from the little i know about it, could be interesting. i don't like many black and white films, but maybe that'd be cool. as for one i've seen, i have to choose 2001: A Space Odyssey. i know i've never seen it all the way through but i've seen big chunks from time to time (and have probably seen it all that way) and my impression of it is: my god! could something happen please! i don't need any big action sequences or anything, just something. talk faster, fix HAL faster, move around faster, something. HAL - dave, why don't you like me? dave - because you tried to kill me. HAL - oh yeah. me - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz maybe if HAL had asked "would you like to play a game?" the movie could've been saved. and pretend the guy's name was dave in case i messed it up.
I didn't like Liberty Valence, either. I liked Citizen Kane, though, but not enough to list it as the best movie of all time. Not even the best movie featuring Orson Welles in my book.
