The prosecution has rested, closing arguments begin tomorrow, and it should be going to the jury very soon. What do you think the outcome will be? My prediction: either she walks or she gets convicted of something much less than murder, and gets virtually no jail time.
Hard to guess... I would say she gets life, I doubt she gets anything that harsh though. I'll just go for the longshot.
manslaughter no jail time (of course, that's from someone who really hasn't kept up....I don't even know if that sentence is possible.....just a gut feeling)
The only way she walks is if the jury is hung, and that's not truly walking. There was an article earlier in the trial about how the defense couldn't strike everyone from the jury during selection that felt she should get something.
I forget what the options are, but I know that any guilty verdict will result in jail time. I say she will get the lesser charge.
I have not been following the case. I'm usually not interested in criminal matters. However, I had the opportunity to eat lunch with two conservative women professionals last week. I was amazed that they both thought that she should get completely off. The were sympathetic and argued that she wouldnt do it again. I found this incredible. While I don't think prison will do anything to prevent this from happening again, I do think you have to convict her of manslaughter and give her at least 5 years. She ran over the guy three times!
I hope she gets life, as much as I hate people cheating on each other I am sick and tired about hearing about ex lovers or lovers killing each other. People who base their entire lives on another person are just setting themselves up to be detroyed. Even married people should have independent identities to rely upon. Marriages that are together out of love and respect are much better than those that are based on insecurity and loneliness.
What kind of precedent would that set if Clara is let off? Would it now be justified to kill your spouse if you catch him or her cheating on you? I must admit to not following the trial closely, but I too have spoken with women who are sympathetic to her since her husband was cheating.
Hey texxxx, if you have not been following it closely, you may not know this little tidbit. His mother (the guy who was killed) has been showing up to court with Clara, and has openly supported her. How about that one? I lost a friend two weeks ago tomorrow to a murder. I do not think that anything justifies murder, but I will say according to every witness that knew about the whole situation, that guy was a complete d!ck. I would think there is some merit to that being that his family is in support of her. No way, no how unless I had committed some atrocious unspeakable act, or I was a dreadful, vicious, evil human being would you EVER find my mother supporting the woman who killed me, even if it were for cheating. I hope !
Oh hell no!!! We don't need more statistics that prove the Death Penalty is unfair But seriously, why didn't she just divorce him? Her husband may have been a dick, but nobody has the right to decide who deserves to die and why. She better spend a good long time in prison.
Did someone record her running over her husband? I remember watching a clip of the news showing a car driving in circles in a parking lot very fast but didn't give it much thought. I haven't followed the case either. Don't think she should get life, but prison time is a must.
She'll probably get a few years for manslaughter. I certainly hope she doesn't get off completely. OK, so her husband was a cheating dog, but since when does that give her the right to run over him? With his own daughter in the car? It's a very sick and vicious woman who could do such a thing to another human being. I just don't understand the mentality of these people. First of all, you have the right to be upset, but you have the responsibility to control yourself at all times. Either she didn't control herself, or it was a cold premeditated act. Either way, same horrible outcome. Also, why was she so eager to hang onto him? When he was trying to decide between his wife and his mistress, he compared the benefits of the two women (mostly physical). She was trying to compete with the mistress and was planning on getting breast enlargement surgery. Why???? If my husband pulled one bit of that, I would tell him to forget the whole thing, that I didn't want anything to do with him anymore. And that would be it. I would be gone and at least would be blessed with the chance to reshape my life and find something better.
You want to talk about crazy. I am going to attempt to recall this from memory, so there may be details I am leaving out but: -Clara hired a private investigator (Blue Moon Inv) to follow her husband (and yes it was video taped) -The woman who was w/ the cheater worked w/ Clara and her husband -The woman who was w/ the cheater had been in a bitter custody battle with her husband -She had cheated on him w/ another woman (who she appeared on the Sally Jesse show with) -He was being investigated b/c he had planted bugging devices in her home and was caught -He (the cheating woman's husband) too hired private investigator to follow and tape his wife's activities, oddly enough, it too was Blue Moon Inv There are some more oddities to the story that I can't recall at this time, however, I am scaring myself by the amount of detail I remember from this story.
a transcript of some testimony (according to foxnews). is that "our" oscar torres on the stand, or is it a common name? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,78271,00.html HOUSTON — The prosecution's final witness used toy cars Tuesday to show jurors what he remembered seeing: Clara Harris repeatedly ramming her Mercedes-Benz into her adulterous husband in a hotel parking lot. Punctuating his testimony with sounds of squealing tires and crashing metal, Oscar Torres gave an eyewitness account in Harris' murder trial, the last witness to appear before closing arguments Wednesday. "He was mauled and he was gasping for air," Torres said of David Harris. Chris Junco, who had been playing tennis with Torres across the street from the parking lot, testified the two stared in disbelief as they saw Clara Harris drive over her husband's body three times. "I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was real," Junco said as he described the parking lot mayhem on July 24. "It was weird. I don't know how to describe it. The whole scene was very mad." The defense says the death was an accident and that Harris, 44, was struck once. Clara Harris, 45, maintains she intended only to hit a sport-utility vehicle owned by her husband's lover after catching the two of them at the hotel that night. Prosecutors say she intentionally killed him. During cross-examination, defense attorney George Parnham tried to mimic the sounds Torres made, seeking to establish that the main sound was Harris' Mercedes-Benz striking the lover's Lincoln Navigator. "When you made that crash sound, it was very emphasized?" Parnham asked. "That was exactly what I heard," Torres responded, referring to noises he made that included an engine racing and "BAM!" "It sounded like a crash, a car hitting a car," he said.
Does anybody know if the SUV was actually damaged? The video didn't provide much of a view, but I know I didn't see a Navigator getting hit.
To me this trial has been one big drama. Clara Harris breaks down crying almost every other day. Didnt one of the prosecutors pass out or something?
To me killing is killing, no matter who does it. The only time I can think that killing another human being would EVER be justified would be in a case of self-defense. Clara Harris running over her husband was clearly not self-defense.
Her defense lawyer passed out. He had been suffering from the flu I think.. I think she should not get off scot-free. The solution to her problem should not have been murder...divorce would have got her much more money and absolutley no chance at jail time.
