One of my pet peeves is when people clap during a movie. For example, when Yoda breaks out his lightsaber to fight Count Dooku in Episode 2, or last night when I went to go see Spiderman...

Who the hell claps during a movie. It's not a sporting event...it's a freaking movie. I hate when people do this...

I agree, I hate when people start clapping. Its much more entertaining when hearing some teenager yell "SHUT THE F*** UP!" during the middle of the movie like last night at Spiderman-3

I rather hear a crowd clap or cheer than have a bunch of idiots talk or have cell phones ring during the movie..

Why do you hate it when the audience claps? They're just expressing how awesome a particular scene or the entire film is.

Does it also upset you when people laugh at a funny moment in a movie? It's not like the director or actors can hear them then either.

People who talk during movies should have drinks poured on them.

I never understood why people clap during a movie either, movie's aren't freakin real. Guess it is just something that some people naturally do.

Would these same geeks be clapping at home if they were watching it alone for the first time?

Who knows? I'm sure people laugh just as much at funny movies and probably cry even more at sad ones in the privacy of their own home... What does it matter, anyway? Why is one form of audience approval acceptable but another not?

its more about the audience sharing the sentiment that the movie made them feel a certain way...

why do people clap after an opera or a play? to show the performers their appreciation...

its not about the movie, its about how the movie made the audience feel

clapping in the theater is fine. cellphones (not necessarily ringing) opening up in the movie is irritating. having seven treos with their backlight on full blast to where it's brighter than the movie screen sucks. i hate when those bastards sit next to me to txt msg.

It's a freaking movie!!! Not an event. I appreciate when scenes in movies are well done. I think to myself "man that was tight as hell".... or whisper to the person i'm with if i thought a particular scene was exceptionally good.

When the words "Spider-Man 3" appear on the screen, that is no reason to clap!!! The idiots i watched the movie with clapped last night. Clapping is catching on more and more. I'd say the last 3 movies i've seen in the theater, some idiots started clapping...

Do you clap at home by yourself when Jack Baur is saving someone??? Or whatever show you watch. There is no difference between clapping for a tv show and clapping for a movie....Laughing is different. Laughing is not clapping. You can go to the movie theater to laugh. You can go to the movie theater to cry...But you cant go to the movie theater to freaking clap....go to a ball game or something...

I will occassionally clap when I'm at home if a scene or particular line pleases me enough.

How are laughing and crying different from applauding? They are all reactions to the movie.

oh ok...that is kind of weird though. i guess everyone is different
i mean if im watching a movie by myself, i dont think i'm giong to clap. i would laugh though. to me laughing is more of a response. sorta like a reflex. clapping...not so much people go to a movie for a good laugh. the whole theater is going to laugh if something is funny.
