.. unless you use the specific biodegradable bags that the city is selling.

Starting February 1st, the city will stop picking up your lawn clippings if you bag them in plastic bags that you purchased at WalMart, Costco, etc. The cost for the new bags will range from $6.99 to $7.99 for a box of ten.

I'm absolutely livid at this. This is direct evidence of city corruption.

Now I have to find a way to hack the city trash system.

Buy a mulching lawn mower and burn your leaves at night.

I have a mower that mulches, but I have an oak tree and mulching oak leaves is very bad for your lawn because of the acidity of the leaves (they have something called Tannin in them).

    Also...

This November my tree dumped all its leaves at once. In one day, I filled 19 bags of leaves. That would be $16 worth of bags in one day with the new bags. THAT SUCKS!

Hmmmm - I mulched mine for the last 10 years and never heard of that haha. My yard even improved.

I think this is great news. It will make our waste service more efficient, improve the environment, and lower costs for the city and ultimately the tax-payer.

One day? Isn't that more like one year? Your tree will only shed it's leaves once per year. If that only costs you $16, I don't know what you're complaining about. Actually filling all those bags is ten times the burden that paying for them is.

Just put it in old boxes or fold each leaf carefully and put em in a pillow case or old vcr. Really stick it to em.

seems a step in the right direction. i was just down in houston and it was appalling that recycling is still some exotic notion down there.

We haven't been allowed to put leaves in bags where I live for as long as I can remember. We had to leave them in piles by the road and they were periodically picked up.

I will buy the bags and put my unwanted chemical waste and syringes in the middle of the leaves.

No, I throw my trash away, not on the highway. Yankee-like smoking, transfat and gun bans etc are messing with Texas culture much much more.

    Die hippies die.
