From Arkansan Jeff Nichols, perhaps my favorite young director. It stars Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Jessica Chastain (Tree of Life). Won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival this year. I highly recommend his first film Shotgun Stories, available on Netflix stream I believe. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/I5U4TtYpKIc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Saw this a few weeks ago, looking forward to it. Michael Shannon is awesome. I can't find Shotgun Stories to download anywhere.
Can't believe this movie hasn't been discussed on here. Just saw it tonight. I was sceptic at first, but my did I miss out all these months. Great great acting job, beautiful movie. For those who've seen it, what did you think of the ending?
Honestly, I thought the ending was awful. It was apparent about halfway through the film that there were one of two directions they could go - and both of those directions could have worked. But by the time they got to the ending it was just lame and kinda pissed me off that I watched the movie in the first place. Still, though, Michael Shannon ftw. The only reason to see this film is to see Michael Shannon doing his thing. Jessica Chastain wasn't bad, but her role didn't require too much of her.
I really enjoyed it. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain were superb. What I liked was the way the working middle American class was portrayed. It was honest and dignified without the usual snark and judgement you see from Hollywood.
