China is so ready to compete with Hollywood. ...maybe the SyFy channel. Lulz.

That does look kind of half-baked, hopefully there will be some more post production but a lot of Chinese cinema compares well with Hollywood in terms of scope. The cinematography and scope of the battle in Red Cliff 2 are as good as anything Hollywood has put out.

Would be funny to think of China as a direct competitor to Hollywood. You think we'd get bootleg offers for Chinese cinema for 99 cents on burned DVDs? I wonder if they would throw a piracy fit if the roles were reversed.

To be fair, Mainland China cinema is sh8t. Hong Kong cinema, which has a rather long history, still makes some of the most exciting films worldwide. Hell, Taiwanese cinema is better than the mainland crap.

Looks entertaining, everything doesn't have to look real all the time. look at 300, Those graphics were almost as bad

I don't think it will detract from the movie

Wuttt, 300 was at least 100x better than this! And it only cost $60 million to make. But yeah this totally looks like one of the low budget "SuperMegaUltra______(Insert scary animal)" movies that SyFy produces.

$130 million for this crap? Good God.

How the hell do you even go to work on something like this? Everyone involved (aside from the tycoon-screenwriter-producer) MUST know that this will never make it to US theaters.

They better hope there are a lot of suckers with low standards back in China.

Why do you even want to troll like this while spouting nonsense? Unless you actually believe what you are saying .... to which I hope you broaden your horizons.

RedCliff and House of Flying daggers are mainland films which in term of scale and production value are probably grander than any movie out of HK . There are also a lot of artistic movies such as "Together" that are really well made. I found Hong Kong movies to be perfectly entertaining and love the original "Infernal affairs" and "Election". But so many of the movies are ones where you watch and forget. Though I'm a sucker for Stephen Chow's comedies.

That said, the movie in OP looked like crap. After research not really from a major studio in China but some real estate tychoon's pet project. I'd liken it to battlefield earth or Delgo.

Still that's some high cost for a passion project. Let's hope it either help him turn some of the under the table money into legit or allow him to bang some hot Russian actresses :D
