-- CIA Director Porter Goss has resigned, senior Bush administration official tells wire services (Breaking News e-mail)

Probably must have had something to do with the Republican poker/hooker/coke ring that was in the news last week and then buried in which he was implicated

Porter 'super freak' Goss resigned huh? There are other things it could have to do with as well, but that is probably a good guess.

He was on the job for all of 1 year, there's no way it was anything else.

it does seem odd, but then again, there's an ongoing admin shakeup, so it could just be part of that. absent any facts, your comment is just ridiculous.

The WH is already trying to spin it as part of the administration "shakeup."

[edit] Oops! looks like the memo already went out.

Ha ha ha, what's going to be ridiculous is the post above when more details come out.

CIA Director and former Republican congressman and others implicated in Republican sex and bribery scandal, CIA director abruptly resigns - yeah it's ridiculous to speculate that the two had any connection whatsoever....

    Red Lights on Capitol Hill?

    By Ken Silverstein.
    April 27, 2006

SourcesThe Wall Street Journal reported today that indicted former California Congressman Randall "Duke" Cunningham may not have limited his good times to partying on a rented yacht. It turns out the FBI is currently investigating two defense contractors who allegedly provided Cunningham with free limousine service, free stays at hotel suites at the Watergate and the Westin Grand, and free prostitutes.

The two defense contractors who allegedly bribed Cunningham, said the Journal, were Brent Wilkes, the founder of ADCS Inc., and Mitchell Wade, the founder of MZM Inc.; both firms profited greatly from their connections with Cunningham. The Journal also suggested that other lawmakers might be implicated. I've learned from a well-connected source that those under intense scrutiny by the FBI are current and former lawmakers on Defense and Intelligence comittees—including one person who now holds a powerful intelligence post.

My money's on Hookergate, though I suppose the WH could be thinking he wasn't tough enough with the spooks. I think the former because this sets them up to do a nominee and confirmation hearing before the midterms, thus allowing all sorts of embarrasing questions to be asked, should the Dems pull a Colbert and grow a set.

I think that probably refers to the #3 man at the CIA, who has been widely reported to have long standing connections with Wilkes and the others.

Actually maybe not because I'm not sure if the #3 guy was ever on the intelligence committee like Goss was (which your article refers to). So it could be goss after all.

I would hope it was the 'buying influence' part that he resigned for - the rest they could have just got in Vegas. :D

    from josh -

    Yowzah.

Actually, make that a double-yowzah: Remember that Goss is the one who plucked one of Wilkes' old San Diego friends, the unusual and colorful Kyle "Dusty" Foggo, out of CIA middle-management obscurity to be his #3 at the agency. At the time of Foggo's appointment, no one could figure out where he came from, or how Goss knew him.

But if Goss was at the "parties," I wonder, was Foggo there too? Did they see each other? Is this where Goss had an opportunity to gauge Foggo's abilities, and determine he was qualified for the CIA executive director post?

    .

Nope. Can't be. The #3 man is Foggo.

Dusty "Nine Fingers" Foggo was not a "current and former lawmakers on Defense and Intelligence comittees—including one person who now holds a powerful intelligence post." because he wasn't ever a member of congress, unless I'm mistaken.

Edit: whoops, "Nine Fingers" was somebody else apparently. I wonder where he left that other finger...

Since we're parsing all the threads these days, I read that whole sentence...

...and I note that Kyle "Dusty" Foggo was never a current or former lawmaker on the Defense and Intelligence comittees.
