NBA VET CHUCKY BROWN NAMED D-FENDERS ASSISTANT COACH

EL SEGUNDO- The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League have hired NBA veteran Chucky Brown as the franchise’s assistant coach, it was announced today.

Brown brings to the D-Fenders over a decade of experience in the NBA, D-League, CBA, and WBA as a player, coach and mentor. Most recently Brown served as assistant coach for the Roanoke Dazzle for the last two seasons of the team’s existence. During the two campaigns that Brown was part of the Dazzle coaching staff, they went 26-22 in 2004-05 and 25-23 in 2005-06. He served as the player mentor for the Fayetteville Patriots before taking the position at Roanoke.

Brown was head coach of the Raleigh Knights of the World Basketball Association in the summer of 2004, leading the team to a 12-8 finish and the semi-finals of the league postseason. The Knights finished the season as the hottest team in the WBA, winning their final six games.

A 13-year veteran of the hardwood, Brown played in 694 NBA games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Sharing the record with Tony Massenburg for most NBA teams played for in a career with 12, Brown retired with 4,125 career points, averaging 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also played professionally in Italy and has won one NBA Championship and CBA Championship.

An All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in 1989 at North Carolina State, Brown led the Wolfpack to the 1987 ACC championship and was the leading rebounder in the conference in 1989.

Brown, 38, was born in New York but grew up and attended high school and college in North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He has also volunteered his time as a coach for an AAU team in Raleigh, N.C. and for the NBA Rookie Transition Program.

Brown and his wife Melanie are the proud parents of two daughters.

The Los Angeles D-Fenders open the 2006-07 season on the road on November 24 in Anaheim and then debut at home on the hardwood at STAPLES Center on November 28 at 3:30 p.m. against San Joaquin Valley rivals the Bakersfield Jam.

On July 31st of this year the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they had become the first NBA franchise in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Los Angeles D-FENDERS will play their home games at STAPLES Center pre and post Lakers home games. The Lakers devoted fans were given the opportunity to name the NBA D-League team in an online naming contest.

    The real CHUCKSTER!!!

The one who punked Charles Barkley in the Phoenix series, and iced 2 cold blooded free throws in 1995 playoffs (Game 5) to send Utah packing!

Not the kind of guy I expected to become a coach. For some reason I always imagined he'd retire and be a fisherman or work on old cars or something.

I too thought he was older... Very glad to hear he is finding success as a coach, however. He will always be a favorite.

    Zboy,

You are the only weirdo on the BBS with a hard-on for another poster as part of his signature. I just though that I'd point that out for you, in case you thought what you wrote was "in the norm."\
