It's really hard to say that we have a legit back up point guard in our team. Consider Kill bill will probably has a year or 2 to develop in NBA caliber. John Lucas III loves to shoot that ball so much that make him more like a shooting guard. Sura will be sideline who knows until when, and whom i would really consider a true point guard but then again. Head is definitely a 2 guard. So inorder to fill in the void on our back up PG, I really think we should negotiate on bringing Chucky Atkins to HTown, he make only $3 million and with so many guards in Memphis i really think we got a shot on this guy! The time is right to make a run for championship this season!

    GO ROCKETS!

He plays a lot of minutes and is playing well. Doubt they would give him up for nothing.

It would be great to get him, though

Atkins will be traded this season...but there are a lot of teams interested in him and I agree if the grizz can get more somewhere else then thats where theyre going.

    i wouldn't mind having him as a veteran back-up.

that being said, you really didn't need to start a whole new thread for this. there are already a few other threads where you could've asked the same question. i know that you know better, but rookies will see this and feel encouraged - even compelled - to do the same.

ESPN Marc Steins 3rd topic under Amechi's fiasco. Marc Stein said that Houston has the biggest TE that almost every team would like to trade for a draft and one of his Hyphothetical Example is Chuky Atkins, Anthony Johnson, Tyron Lue and Kevin Ollie. Marc Stein knew the only thing that this team needs to have is a back up point guard behind Rafer Alston. Of all 4, Chucky Atkins definitely needs to get in to our bandwagon.

    Rockets Payroll $61 MIL
    Grizzlies Payroll $64 MIL

    Let's get it done CD!!

and the reason for sayin this is???...... This is what we need.. a veteran back-up point guard .. he can shoot well, passes well.... maybe his defense isnt all that great but... im pretty shure JVG will fix that up -- this would definitly fill in the void on this team

Im down for this trade... and if im right doesnt that TE expire tommorow??? ... if so i expect a trade to happen tommorow!!!! get it done CD

pros: the guy can penetrate and shoot the ball but he is a streaky shooter.

he is undersized guard who has no defense skills whatsoever both individual and team defense. the guy if you watch will just stand around and watch the action on defense if his man does not have the ball or if his man beats him off the dribble. we already have an undersized guard in lucas who cant play a lick of defense already. I cant remember the last time he was able to get a rebound...actually the last time he tried to get a rebound

offensively he is limited, he isnt very good at setting up an offense and if he doesnt look for his shot he goes back into "spectator mode" on offense not rotating to the open spot, possibly setting a back pick or trying to direct traffic off the ball. most of the times if he passes it out he'll camp in one spot a few feet behind the 3pt line and just stay there.

also the guy turns the ball over at the strangest of times i have seen him at least 5 times this year turn the ball over by dribbling it out of bounds or losing control of the ball out bounds when there was no pressure on him at all, three times there wasnt even a defender within 8 feet of him. the guys decision making is questionable at best, granted he wont be making the plays at the end of the 4th, but figure him to be in the at the end of possibly the first, second or third quarters then you have a problem in giving the other team momentum.

i've seen chucky play here in la plenty of times and this year my roomates and i try to watch every grizzlies game possible just to see what stupid thing chucky will do next, its been a running joke with us how terrible this guy is and every game he will do something that just boggles the mind how a guy could make the league with such poor decision making as a pg.

yes we do need a pg i think jl3 can do a good job if he actually passes, but the guy just tries to score as many points as possible which is the problem. i would try to explore what options there are out there, chucky would be a one a done deal it seems since he is expiring this year. i would honestly prefer the rockets take on a contract of a backup pg that is longer than a year just to help develop chemistry. you look at the elite teams in the league there arent too many changes to their core group of guys and main role players and they develop that chemistry that is needed to take it to the next level. the rockets every year since van gundy became head coach have gone through massive roster changes out of necessity and no chemistry is going to develop that way.

also we do need a PF/C because deke may or may not be here next year and we do need a suitable backup for yao

JL3 is not there yet and we don't need another PF/C right now. i really think we got a shot now for championship if we can get Atkins!!!

Those names mentioned really don't surprise me at all although there's a snowball's chance in hell Cuban would help us by sending Anthony Johnson over to a conference rival just to save a few bucks.

Personally, I think Tyronn Lue is the way to go. He does a little bit of everything -- he scores, he defends, he can run an offense and has a knack for hitting big shots and stepping up in the clutch. I know this because i've followed his career and have watched him play a lot due to my buddy being a Hawks fan. He's one of those under-the-radar players that can have a huge impact and change the game once he checks in. The kid can shoot too! He shot 46% from 3-pt range (better than Luther) last year and is a career 44% shooter from the field and 39% from 3-pt range -- not bad for a player generating such little interest and attention around the league.

I'll take Atkins. But I'd rather have Francis on a minimum contract after the Knicks buy him out. We trade Sura, Padgett, and Bonzi (3 expiring contracts) to the Knicks for QRich, Cato, and as an enticement to get them to buy out Francis. They get to save around $20 million or more in salary and luxury tax next year (Larry Brown's money) and get to unclog their rotation.

QRich is a better Bonzi, with a 3 ball shot. He can post up or 3 ball it and is every bit the rebounder and defender Bonzi is.

I would think New York would do this deal to dump salary. And this deal would have to make us the contender favorites.

    Battier-QRich-Novak
    Hayes-Battier-QRich-Juwan

    Ok well:

    1) We are ONLY giving up TE, which will expire. So Chucky Atkins for NOTHING is a pretty good trade.

    2) Why worry about a center now? We are fine for this season and we are in WIN NOW mode, fill the HUGE whole we have at backup PG now and worry about the center during the offseason.

    3) Even if we could get a center.... who?? Steven Hunter? LOL, he isn't any better of a fit on our team than Atkins, if you can think of anyone else please tell.

Rocky Mountain News: "Houston has a $4.2 million trade exception that expires today. The Rockets have inquired about Nuggets center Jamal Sampson."

Who is Jamal Sampson??? is he better than Ely or P.J. Brown?

Better than PJ Brown? Heck no. Brown has pretty good all-around skills as a big man... but then, he's also really old.

Ely I'm not very impressed with. For being so big and athletic, he doesn't rebound very well (remind you of anyone)?

Sampson is generally considered a scrub, which is why he doesn't play much, but he does have one skill: pretty dang good rebounder. He also (rightfully) doesn't have a big head. Not exactly the most aggressive choice from Rockets management... guess they just want a big body.

I think it's a trial balloon by the Nugz to get our attention. I can't imagine picking up the guy.

I saw that. Sampson is EXACTLY the kind of guy we are looking for. Those of you thinking we are getting PJ Brown, Ely, forget it. It isn't going to be someone like that.

The Rockets of course would love to get a quality guy like that, but more than likely the only viable person is someone that is a 10th,11th,12th man like Sampson. Basically an insurance policy big guy to come in and give Mutombo some rest while Yao is out.

Sampson is 780K expiring, so he fits the financial structure.
