"If they're able to play, they will start," Van Gundy said. "They are pretty much definite. Battier, yeah. Alston, yeah. We can throw around the fifth starter. But those two? If they're living and breathing, they'll start.

probable Fifth Starter players : Hayes, Bonzi, Snyder, Howard

I like Tracy's tone. He sounds anxious. He sounds focused. He sounds ready to draw blood...and I absolutely love it.

At this point I think it's almost certain Snyder will be the starting SG to begin the season. As long as he can knock down the open three and play tough defense he's not a bad option though. TMac, Battier, Alston, and Snyder can all hit from beoyond the arc, which is what need surrounding Yao.

Bonzi has not had anywhere near enough time with the team to be considered a starter for opening night. Although he could eventually become a starter, he simply has not had enough experience working with rest of our team. I can see Hayes getting a good amount of PT, but I just can't see him starting. His intensity is great, but I think he should only be used if we're getting killed on the boards. Howard just doesn't bring enough to the table. His only positive quality is he shooting.

I'd look for VSpan and Novak to get even more minutes in the final three preseason games if Wells and Head aren't able to return to the team soon. On the bright side these guys get some experience. I really don't like how this season has already started with some of our better players unable to practice. I guess there's some things you can't control though.

My gut says Bonzi will come off the bench - initially because he needs to work his way back into the rotation and later because he's shown what a valuable sixth man he is.

Personally, I say line up your best players and the best team wins.

I think Hayes, Howard and Snyder will probably share the starts during the season based on matchups.

I like Synder to start with Battier at the 4 to stretch the defense for Yao in the post.

    Good read.

Since both of our shooting guards are unavaliable right now, its all down to Kirk Snyder to show more of what he can do (He has done great so far), and Last 3 chances for Casey Jacobson to make the team before getting cut.

Your whole line of reasoning is inherently flawed.

Whoever doesn't want Head is simply asexual or extremely prude.

    ... Carry on.

lol. yeah, wanting head applies to both genders.

But this article is definetly something to be excited about. I've always hated how the Rockets would limp in regular season and then play super awesome at the end and not clinch the advantage playoff spot. We need to be playing like a #1 seeded team now.

Oh how i miss the 15-0 record days.

I now believe that Bonzi will be coming off the bench for the whole season. Regardless of what his behind his current personal leave, Bonzi is not someone that JVG is going to be able to count on night in, night out barring serious injury. The starting lineup needs to be a very stable group that is always ready to play.

Bringing Bonzi off the bench gives JVG a lot of flexibility to make situational substitutions. Some nights Bonzi will be there, some nights he won't. It's not as disruptive if Bonzi is coming in as a backup.

I think the 5th starter will be between Hayes and Snyder, Depending who we play and whether opponents have real strong PF.

I'd like to see Novak and Vspan get 10-15 mpg. The last three games Vspan has to get more control over his game and make JVG feel comfortable playing him in real games.

    T-Mac is ready to roll...

I think the 5th starter will be Snyder. He has really impressed me! The guy can flat out play ball.

Is it clearfied who died in head's family? If its his granduncle or someone like that i think he will be ok, but if its his (closer family members) i will become worried how long it is going to take for him to recover.

I can see this situation getting ugly. If Bonzi isn't getting the minutes he deserves, at some point will he accuse the team of purposely jeopardizing his ability to get a nice contract in the summer? I have a feeling that's the situation we're heading towards.

IMO Howard will be our backup C. I don't think (I hope) he'll not start.
