The turtle pond on the north side of the tower was created in memory of those who died, yet there is no plaque...its something the UT administration would rather forget. There are still bullet holes on statues on the south mall that have never been fixed.

Scary thing is Whitman killed or injured a person walking on MLK (I don't know what it was called in 1966). MLK is far

I guess that shoots down the whole notion of accountants being boring...

I don't want to steal another poster's thunder, but when I heard Kim's story, I balled. Never met her, but from all I know, a wonderful person.

Absolutely. She was one of the nicest people I met in High School. I took her to the Guns-N-Roses / Metallica concert my junior year. Always a good person to be around.

No, rockHEAD, I don't think that's what people are saying, especially in Kim's case. Her story is very touching and inspiring, I just know someone else who can tell it much better.

Kim was a sorority sister of mine. She was the first person I talked to at my sorority during rush and remained a good friend throughout. She was an amazing person who was dedicated to Christ and had a sense of faith I envy. Another mutual friend of ours was there that day, near Kim. She told us that when someone came in and shouted that there was a man with a gun, everybody got under the pews, but because where Kim was sitting, she could not get under the pew. The whole time she prayed, not that God would save her, but rather that He is an awesome God and thanked him for his presence in her life. She prayed that selfless prayer right up until she was shot and killed. While I hate that she is gone, I am comforted by the fact that her goal was to spread the word of Christ, which she did by her death, when her memorial service was aired in Saudia Arabia, for her parents who lived there, a place where it is against the law to speak the name Christ in the street.

She is my reminder that there is a plan, and even when it sucks, it is a good plan.

sorry if that was a little heavy.

Another that I remember that isn't on this list was the shootings at Cleveland Elementary in Stockton, California in 1989. Twenty-six year-old Patrick Purdy fired over 100 rounds of ammunition into the schoolyard. Five children were killed and 29 were wounded.

This is off of what mrpaige said...

It seems to me like there should have been more on there (not that I want more, the list was just shorter than I expected).

I remember the Cleveland school incident, being from Stockton. It made the Columbine and other shootings just a little more painful and easy to relate to.
