Vin Diesel in a stupid movie? Surely you jest. The master thespian, who uttered such lines as "The busta kept me out of handcuffs," could not make a bad movie....
would it be alright if i mocked you for paying money to see this movie? thanks in advance for your response!
My problem with Vin is when he makes craptastic movies like fast and the furious and xXx. He seems like a cool guy and when he was a supporting actor in Saving Private Ryan and Boiler Room, he was pretty good. Anyways, Saved! opened today, but most of my friends want to see this, so I'll be catching it today. Hope I can see Saved! this weekend.
A friend of mine and I were talking about this the other day, actually. When he's the only lead, the movies tend to be bad (xXx and A Man Apart). However, when you make him part of the general cast (Boiler Room, Pitch Black, and the underrated Knockaround Guys), the movies are definitely bearable, if not downright enjoyable. Hell, I even liked The Fast and the Furious when his shared lead was an even worse actor. That movie looks great. Pretty decent reviews too.
I think you hit the nail on the head there. I agree and feel the same way. He is good as a solid #2 guy but he can't "carry" the show. He is better as the "strong silent type" kind of guy. He is VERY limited as an actor but when he plays to his strengths he plays his character well. But take him out of his element and then his faults are exposed and thus the movie really lacks. XXX is a prime example of that.
Are ya'll suggesting that XXX would have been a good movie if they had a different actor in the lead role? Let's say XXX with Denzel Washington instead of Diesel? Couldn't it be that Saving Private Ryan and Boiler Room were just plain good movies and it didn't much matter who the actors were (within reason)?
Well the plot doesn't work. It changes momentum in two different ways. It doesn't spend enough time developing its main plot 2. It doesn't make sense at all. It doesn't explain anything. It hopes that it can blind you with stupid special effects. 3. It tries to get Vin to have emotional moments and show off his Steven Segal-esque acting skills. 4. I went to watch it for the action, not this made for TV movie with a high budget.
I wouldn't pay to see this movie but the "Official Xbox Magazine" was ranting and raving about how great this game will be when it comes out. I've never read so much sucking up about a game before except Halo 2. However, seeing as how I have no interest in whatever this movie is supposed to be about, I probably won't be buying the game unless all the gamers come back saying how they can't live without it. I also didn't like "Pitch Black" very much at all. It was okay I guess but nothing to write home about. I was as surprised as the next guy to know they were making a sequel. The fact that their calling this a sequel and it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the original movie other than having Van Diesel in it is lameness in itself.
I'm not a big Diesel fan, but I liked the prequel to Riddick, "Pitch Black". I'll probably see this one eventually, whether it gets good reviews or not.
