Woman allegedly ran over teens with her SUV after getting hit with golf ball

    Associated Press

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A woman ran over two teenage brothers after they accidentally hit her sport utility vehicle with a golf ball they were bouncing in a parking lot, officials said. One of the boys suffered life-threatening injuries.

The 14- and 16-year-old boys were bouncing the golf ball in a shopping center parking lot Sunday afternoon when it went astray and struck the SUV driven by 47-year-old Kathy Feaganes Allen, sheriff's Deputy Greg Suchy said.

No damage was done, and the boys apologized and began to walk away, Suchy said. Allen started to drive away, but suddenly made a U-turn, ran over a median and struck the teens before knocking over a light pole, Suchy said.

"I tried to run. I blacked out. I woke up bleeding," Justin Marshman, 16, told The Florida Times-Union.

She then allegedly went after a third brother, but did not hit him. A witness said that after the SUV came to rest, Allen got out of the car and smoked a cigarette with the boys lying on the ground in pain.

"She charged them. This was the most deliberate act," witness Russell McPhee said. "After she ran them down, she got out of the car and lit a cigarette like a movie star."

Isiah Grayer, 14, was in critical condition Monday. Justin Marshman, his stepbrother, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Brent Woolbright of the St. Johns County Public Defender's Office said he was assigned Allen's case Monday and was trying to get all the facts.

"I talked to her, and her story is a little different that what was reported," he said.

Allen told the court she has mental problems. A judge ordered her held without bail Monday on three counts of attempted murder.

Don't mess with the crazy lady.

Very sad story, but shouldn't 14 and 16 year old boys be chasing girls and not "bouncing a golf ball?"

My oldest is 15, almost 16, and if he would rather bounce a ball with his friends instead of chasing girls, that's fine by me.

One way or another this person should not have been running loose in society. :( Does anyone take any responsibility at all for their actions anymore?

Looks like there's going to be an insanity defense. Which begs the question of why an insane person is driving a SUV. :(

Because if she was driving a smaller car, then she would be the one who would get killed in the inevitable accident she would cause?

Had that loon run over my kids, she would want to stay in jail...anything that could happen there is much less painful than would happen to her if my wife got hold of her.

Exactly. Two sides to every story.

I am in no way condoning running over people, but come on, there's no such thing as teenage boys "accidentally" hitting someone's car as they're playing in a PARKING LOT of all places.

My Saturn VUE has plastic side panels so the golf ball would have bounced right off without any damage.

Maybe she is a fan of Grand Theft Auto and confused the reality with the game environment. I know I like to occasionally turn the sidewalk into the Autobahn in the game.

Yes there is. You say there are two sides two every story and yet you've already doubted the boys story and are ready to accept the story from the insane woman. You can't possibly believe that there's no chance in hell that some kids could be bouncing a golf ball back and forth to eachother and that one could bounce away from them and hit a car.

We haven't even heard the insane woman's story.

Come on. Teenage boys. Bouncing a golf ball. In a parking lot. Yeah, that sounds like some good clean fun.

Oh yeah, those teenage boys had it comin.

So what if she pulled out a gun and shot them. No matter how or why the boys hit the SUV with a golf ball, still didn't give the woman the right to goe berserk and run them over.

I think you watch too much OC or something. Not all teenagers get into convertibles and speed off to parties at the beach with their free time. It's not like they had to go there specifically to play with a golf ball. They could have been leaving the shopping center and then found a ball and just started goofing around. When I was in highschool, we volunteered at the Shell Houston Open every year since they donated money to our school. After the day was over, people would always be bouncing golf balls back and forth to eachother to pass the time waiting for our bus.

Even though we haven't heard the crazy lady's story, there is an eyewitness account. You know, I don't think I believe you when you say you don't condone what she did, at least I think you condone that fact that she retaliated. What do you think these kids were up to? If they were trying to purposely damage her car, don't you think they wouldn't have done it with her in it? Don't you think they would have damaged more cars? I'm sorry but it just seems like you think these kids were up to no good and got what they had coming to them.
