Shane Battier on Monday went through a light shooting workout for the second consecutive day, but said he could not predict when he would add more demanding drills or be able to practice for the first time.

“I felt pretty good today, but it doesn’t matter how I feel today; it’s about how I feel in the morning,” Battier said. “It’s a slow-healing injury. It’s just a matter of getting confidence back and strength back in the ankle.

“I have no idea what my timetable is. It’s going to be a day-to-day thing. If one day I wake up and feel great, I’m going to try to practice. That’s only after doing a lot of one-legged explosive drills. I haven’t done anything one-legged, yet. If they just need me to come shoot corner 3-pointers, I can do that. Unfortunately, the game of basketball is a little more involved than just sitting in the corner shooting 3s.

“I do have some atrophy in my calf and ankle. When I can go through a full practice and not have any pain or strength issues, I’ll know it’s time to be out there.”

Battier just have to ask Yao for some quick heal Chinese herb and he'll be on his way. Too bad...it looks like he's taking the modern approach.

Man, it's going to be real important for Battier to be COMPLETELY healthy in his ankle, because his biggest asset to his team is positional defense and hustle. And that requires a significant amount of pressure on "stop-and-go's" on his ankle during defense. I think even when he does come back, it's going to take a few more weeks of game action to be able to mentally trust that his ankle is healed before regaining his elite defensive form.

does anyone know if this is still the same ankle problem that started in the Seattle/OKC game when he stepped on KD's foot? it seems like he was never the same after that, and still isn't back to 100%. it's been such a long time though that i'm kinda worried why this thing isn't healing.

its not the same thing, he just had surgery to remove bone spurs, while rehabbing he pushed himself too hard and tweaked it, which is why its taking longer to heal.

    I've said it before...

The Rockets need to hire a nutritionist/biochemist that is the equivalent of Daryl Morey. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they already have that guy. But when you look at their injury status and recovery times over the last few seasons one has to conclude that they don't.

Until one has personally experienced the help (read accelerated recovery) that can come from therapeutic (or mega-doses in some cases) levels of vitamin C, MSM, and other "nutritional" supplements it sounds like a scam or wishful thinking. But, especially, vitamins C and E are very helpful in any recovery from injury. The doses needed sound absurd to people -- especially most doctors. There are reasons why many studies using vitamin C for colds, etc. have failed to show much effect. A good starting point is: http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/ also Google "Dr. Thomas Levy"

In the same way that Tmac went to Dr. Patterson on his own, the Rockets players who want to have a healthy season need to take matters into their own hands and start studying these issues for themselves. ;)
