Chronic: The Rockets' new motto. A slogan or a promise?

    The Rockets on Tuesday will roll out their new marketing campaign, with billboards and television commercials around town.

    Normally, I don't care about these sorts of things. That's about sales. That's about the business. Unless that impacts the basketball - and sometimes it does - it's not terribly important what the team plasters around town or in the commercials I never watch, anyway.

    But I have to admit, I like this one.

    The team that brought you such jewels as 'R You in?' and "The start of something big" came up with one that is at the same time optimistic and a touch cynical, or at least realistic.

    "It's time."

    I do like it. The idea is that it is a nod toward all the off-season improvements and the expectation that the Rockets are ready to join the upper echelon of the league. It's time. But it also seems to acknowledge that the Rockets have not won a playoff series since 1996. Maybe it's me, but it is hard to hear, "It's time," and not think, "It's about time."

    OK, it probably is me on that one, but if they must have a slogan, this one seems to work. (These, days, everybody seems to feel the need. A few years ago, the Knicks trotted out "All Ball," which to contradict the need for a marketing slogan.)

    After the Rockets' Game 7 flameout, Fran said he would love to see the Rockets bring back the 76ers old, gutsy slogan, "We owe you one." The ad included a very large forefinger. It was, if memory serves, the Sixers' motto the year they won the championship.

    This is not quite that bold, but it's good. The commercial has puzzle pieces coming together. That's of course the idea. With this campaign, maybe it is even the promise.

    "It's time."

    With training camp barely a month away, it's time for a lot of things. I'll let you fill in the blanks on what it's time to do. Let me know. But after a lot of waiting, it is definitely time.

    Wow, this slogan's just great!! Waaay better than "be part of something BIG" on yaos rookie season. Its time just gives you chills up your spine. Just hits that spot of the very core of your rockets fandom! Man, this just gets me pumped! I can't wait for the season to start!! :D

    I just saw the billboard driving down highway 6 south right before getting to westimer. It was of tmac and the slogan "Its Time"


    Gave me chills. :eek:

    They should copy the Starcraft 2 slogan:

    "It's time." I really like it. The slogan is confident, realistic, and don't like some other words, hard to read and hear.

    it's time......

    i just hope this doesn't lead to connotations of "we're due one"...or entitlement. you gotta work for it. nothing is free. we need 48 minutes of passion from everyone on the roster, even if you're in practice pants sitting on the bench.


    but heck yeah it's time. 'it's time'.....just gives me chills.
