Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson has a lung contusion and is listed as day-to-day for Sunday's game against Buffalo, coach Gary Kubiak said Monday.

Johnson will undergo tests throughout the week before a decision is made on his availability.

    "We're fortunate here," Kubiak said.

Johnson left Sunday's game against San Francisco in the fourth quarter and was taken to a hospital for X-rays. He fell on the ball, coughed up blood and went to the sideline.

Johnson had a 44-yard reception on what proved to be the Texans' winning field goal drive late in the fourth quarter.

I'd be less concerned if not for the coughing up of blood. "Lung contusion" doesn't sound good but most medical injury descriptions don't sound good, even when the injury is relatively minor.

Hopefully he'll be OK to play Sunday.

sounds bad but they say a mild case can be completely healed in 10-14 days. I wonder if it will keep his reps down a little since he may get a little more winded

Don't rush it back. I'd rather have him for the last 8 games if it means he has to sit out one. While it would be more difficult, we can beat Buffalo without him.

Buffalo's rush D is pretty bad and we have enough weapons that it shouldn't derail the pass atach to much. I say rest him and let SS get on track. Get him ready for Indy as that looms really BIG.

    Wow.

    A bruised lung?

That is a man's injury right there.

Thing is, Buffalo's pass D has been pretty good lately. They've had a godly number of INTs in their past few games (like I said in another post, Jairus Byrd has 5 INTs in the past 3 games). Quietly, their defense is very underrated. Their run D, like you said, is a bit suspect, though.

This game will not be a cake walk, I'm afraid. It's going to be somewhat of a dog fight. I think we can win this game if:

    A. Schaub throws the ball well, and we get everyone involved, as we have this season, including Slaton in the screen game.

    B. Slaton has a decent game on the ground for us (i.e. more than 60 yards rushing).

    C. Our defense, especially our run defense, plays 4 good quarters. Fitzpatrick is a pretty good quarterback. I think Trent Edwards is pretty much done in Buffalo right now, and Fitzpatrick is auditioning to be the QB of the future in Buffalo (if not him, they'll draft one this year, in my opinion...to further that notion, Tim Tebow in Buffalo expands into a few interesting scenarios...), which further motivates him. The Bills have two good, pretty powerful runners, and it's gonna take a lot of gang tackling (ala a week ago) to stop them.

If we can do those three things, I think it's a win for us.

To me, though, this game shows more of what we're made of than the 49ers game. The '9ers were a tough team, and we gutted out a win, but the Bills are a pretty underrated team right now, who are fighting for their coach's (and some of the players') lives. Can we continue this run of good play for another week, or are we just going to say, "Well, if we can beat the Bengals and 49ers, then surely we can beat the Bills", and not put in a good week's work and game?

Nothing. Tape them up for some padding, and let them heal.

As for the bruised lung, it's my opinion that it sounds worse than it is. Should AJ's breathing be alright, I think he suits and plays.

Yep, tape & rest. They hurt like hell.

Never heard of a bruised lung, punctured lung sure, but not this. Doesn't sound fun, I'm sure breathing is a bit painful.

Oh whatever, this is just AJ trying to act like a mortal being. Nice try, Dre.

Keep in mind the last 3 quarterbacks that the Bills defense has faced are, Jake Delhome, Mark Sanchez, and Derek Anderson. Thats 3 of the worst qb's in the league in a row. Ill take there recent success defending the pass with a grain of salt. Concerning that Drew Brees didnt have the best of games, but there ground defense is as bad as it gets and they can not afford to stack the box against us. Should be a win though.

As he was walking to the sideline, he collapsed and started spitting up blood, according to three players who watched him. They took him to the bench. The next time the Texans got the ball, Johnson grabbed his helmet and went back into the game even though the doctors told him not to. The next time the Texans got the ball, members of the medical staff hid his helmet and then circled around it to keep him from getting it and going back into the game.

A guy called into 1560 this morning and had something funny to say about this. He mentioned that he considered himself to be a relatively tough guy, but that if he EVER were to start coughing up blood for any reason, it's time to go to the hospital. With 'Dre, he sits out a play or two, grabs his helmet and goes back on the field, medical staff be damned. That's a freaking MAN right there. And here I was thinking my man love of Andre couldn't grow any bigger.

    Oh, it's still growing, baby.
