Though he said there is “of course” no decision to be made, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he would stick with his policy to wait until the deadline before the start of the regular-season to pick up his option on the fourth season of starting point guard Aaron Brooks' contract.

“It is a no-brainer, of course,” Morey said. “Aaron is an emerging point guard who has a bright future.

“He showed great poise and production when he became the starter last year.

“We of course expect him to be a Rocket for a long time.”

A 2007 first-round pick, Brooks is still on his original rookie contract, giving the Rockets the right to extend his contract for the 2010-11 season for $2,016,692.

The Rockets have picked up every possible option on every rookie-scale contract since the NBA went to its current system for first-round picks.

    Definitely a keeper.
Whether or not he continues to start,
    He's a huge spark offensively. Quite a match-up problem.
He's also developing rapidly. Scary stuff :)

Good for the Rockets, bad for Brooks. He got drafted higher and is a better player then Carl Landry, yet he won't even make 2 million this year while Carl gets 3 mill.

This definitely belongs in the "Duh" category.

And of course Morey's going to wait until the last possible moment. No need to do so early when there's always the risk of a major injury.

That's 'cause Brooks was a 1st round pick and has a rookie scale contract. IIRC we signed Landry to a one year deal, then signed him to a "normal" nba contract the year after. Its not a bad deal for Brooks at all, his contract was guaranteed and while Landry is making more now, his original contract was only a one year deal. If Landry hadn't panned out he wouldn't be getting a cent from us.

Wait until the last minute in case Brooks gets injured; that's both smart & ruthless.

    I like it!

Dorsey is a 2nd round pick. I'm not saying it couldn't happen for him.
