[CHRONIC] Do you like Jordan Hill? He could be Morey's price for doing a McGrady deal

Daryl Morey has resisted trading Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola, Chase Budinger or Carl Landry. Some combination of those four players came up again and again as Morey talked trade with the Sixers, Wizards, Knicks, etc.

Now, though, it appears that Morey is the one holding out for a young player if he's going to trade McGrady. He didn't land Caron Butler and seems unlikely to get Andre Iguodala, in part, because of his desire to hold onto his core players.

He surely would have broken up that core for Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson or Anthony Randolph, but those guys were never available. Now his options seem to be either trade McGrady for a collection of expiring contracts, or hold onto him and use his cap room to reshape the roster this summer.

The Knicks seem to be the team most interested in acquiring McGrady. They've watched him work out and seem comfortable he's capable of contributing this season.

But Morey isn't going to do the deal for contracts that run past this season unless it's for a player he really likes.

According to the New York Post, the Rockets won't do the deal unless they get one of the Knicks' rookies, Jordan Hill or Toney Douglas. Otherwise, they'll apparently allow McGrady to sit and wait for him to accept a settlement on his contract in exchange for his release.

The Knicks would prefer to unload Jared Jeffries or Eddy Curry to clear more salary-cap space this summer, but the Rockets are also protective of their cap room and have no interest in either player.

Hill was the eighth pick of last summer's draft, a 6-10 forward who has played behind Al Harrington (who will also be part of the trade). Douglas, a 6-1 guard, was taken at the bottom of first round by the Lakers last summer.

as long as we don't take on a NON-expiring contract It's an O.K. trade.

Young talent is cheap and great trade bait.

Jordan Hill isn't enough. Rockets need to take back a future draft pick also (2012 or later).

Thats not the point... would you rather let TMac's contract expire or get Jordan Hill (6-11 PF lottery pick) and expirings?

If Jordan Hill plays well the Rockets can then focus on drafting a SG in the upcoming draft...

At this point I really want to get an unprotected 1st round draft pick in whatever McGrady deal we pull (doesn't have to be this year either). If we get that from NY, Wash or Chicago then it could do us very will in the future, especially if the cap and contract rules change

Haven't seen enough of Jordan Hill to determine if I like him. I think a 3rd team is crucial when trading with the Knicks.

no one will give a 2nd rounder let alone a 1st rounder for cap relief.

every team except NY is looking to rebuild and I don't think NY would do it anyway.

Neither, I would get a draft pick, redo the deal to get better talent, or trade with somebody else. Rockets are going to look real stupid, if all they get is 2nd string PF lottery bust.

Jordon Hill would be enough for a guy that's not playing on your team. If T-Mac can net you a young asset in return then it's worth it. Most teams are not going to trade away a draft pick. Based on some of the new CBA talks, draft picks are going to be very important for all teams.

A three team deal between Houston-Philly-New York would work out the best. Something like: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykaoll4

And we throw our first at Philly.

    Houston receives: Iggy, Dalembert, Holiday
Philly receives Harrington, Hughes, Lowry, Houston 1st Round Pick (2010 protected)
    New York receives: McGrady, Taylor

    Thoughts?

how are you gonna say Jordan Hill is already a BUST? He's only a rookie... Also which team do you think would actually give the rockets a draft pick for TMac? Nobody is gonna give up their 1st round pick...

I can't see how the Rockets would look real stupid? They get an asset for She-Mac. You can't go wrong with that.
