http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/5800523.html i'm not posting the article, but this little list is pretty amazing. the astros are totally playing better than i had expected, and the guys we got rid of? well, they're playing about as well as i had expected.
And we replace them with: Bourn Matsui Erstad Tejada Towles Valverde Byrdak Wright Geary Cruz Blum Villariel (sp) Brocail
Everyone worried when we gave up our best prospects. It seems Ed Wade saw our prospects for what they were - trash. We have seemingly removed all the clutter and put our team in a better position to win. Addition by subtraction. Addition by ... addition. Top to bottom our roster is definitely better. If we could get some more pitching while rebuilding the farm system we would be on our way.
I really hope Bourn turns out ok, right now he's just a rehash of Tavarez, who definitely wasnt worth Jennings. However..... Valverde, Matsui, Tejada, Bourn > Lidge, Burke, Everett, Scott. but man, remember when our bully was Lidge setting up Dotel setting up Wagner? The no-hitter? That was a bullpen. Today....bleah. I still like all the moves and dig this team enough to feel good about my MLB package and watch them nightly.
Yeah can't believe we had all 3 of them on our team at one point... pitchers only needed to go 6 then it was lights out.
I read this the other day...It was bitter sweet to see some of our guys doing well...I like our roster this year better....
i'm happy for brad lidge, i really am, i'd hate to see a player lose a great career because he couldn't get over one play and i know some guys argue it wasn't issue, clearly it was. change of scenery was good for him. i always want to see greatness achieve its potential, no matter whom it plays for
I'm really happy for Lidge too. Great guy, great stuff...deserved to not have his career marred and destroyed by what people will say was 1 blemish.
Yeah, clearly. Except that he had already several bad outings the previous two weeks. Except that everyone who worked with him personally stated on multiple occasions that his head was right. Except that the next year, when he was supposedly "rattled", he actually was fighting leg injuries. Yeah, "clearly" indeed. Clearly not. Agreed! Agreed again, unless it's the: Mets, Cubs, Braves, Jazz, or Cowboys.
except now he's a badass again. what's everyone who works with him supposed to say? this guy's a head case?
That's what they said about Redding, in so many words. Sorry, but I'll believe teammates and coaches every day of the week over mediots and arm-chair GMs. Changes of scenery have worked many times for other athletes--why when it works for Lidge is it suddenly proof for the fidiculous, oft-discredited "Pujols bomb" theory? Because it's not.
