http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5292249.html With his surge in the week's home games against the Spurs and Bobcats, guard/forward Bonzi Wells said he is just fine with his role coming off the bench. He is averaging 22 minutes per night. <b>"Oh, no, no," Wells said when asked if he is hoping to become a starter again. "If it happens, I don't really care. We're all one. If one of us wins, we all win. I like my role coming off the bench playing 25, 26 minutes. That's going to prolong my career for another five or six years. So I'm happy with it. And coach (Rick Adelman) understands me, and I understand my role.</b> "I'm just going to play my role. If they just want me to play defense, then I'll play defense. If they want me to score ... I'm trying to do whatever to play off (Tracy McGrady) and Yao (Ming). Those are our best players. We understand that. We just need to try to help those guys and do what we can to take the pressure off them." After getting 15 rebounds in 27 minutes, while making six of 11 shots for 14 points against the Spurs, Wells had 18 points and seven rebounds, keying the Rockets' late run against the Bucks on Friday.
It seems Adelman effects on Bonzi in a good way. These are very good news for us, as Bonzi is our best 6th man along with Mike James. If Scola gets along and Francis gets in shape we will improve more and I'm looking forward to it.
the ROX should be making plans for signing him long term, but that will propably has to be done with YAO and or TMAC restructuring their conract to make space for him.
i worry about bonzi in a long term contract situation. i would love to have him if he can bring it in the future as he is this year but he is hungry for a contract...makes me nervous.
he passed on a 30 million dollar contract a couple years ago to be a free agent right?? that must be the dumbest decision in his life....LOL....
i really like bonzi's attitude. he has had his off-court problems but he doesnt come off like a selfish guy at all. it's good to have players who know their role. bonzi's only playing like this to higher his market value. he's already passed on one fat paycheck before, and i'm sure he wont make the same mistake again.
Actually it was $36 million and yes it was dumb. If he has a good season I would possibly offer him the mid level next year over like 3-4 years.
fat chance he would take the MLE, especially when a lot of teams will be offering a whole lot more it wasnt bonzi who turned down 36 mill. it was his agent, so wells fired him and got a new one
na...I doubt it, he is not 25 year old bonzi, whom teams will be eager to give a long-term contract. I think if rox offers him a multi-year contract, Bonzi will definately take it, learn the lesson from last time, play it safe.
well im sure teams will be offering more than we can, but hopefully if its not that much more he'll stay with us
Except the part from last year when he showed up out of shape, laid down for the entire year, and still took a couple of $million off of us.
oh give that a rest. he had just lost $38 million. wouldnt u be depressed and lacking motivation too? at least he resigned with us and actually brought his game. its still a hell of a bargain to only sign him for $2 mill.
Why would that make your nervous? I don't think we can realistically expect Bonzi to be back next year. If he is, great, if not...well we'll deal with it next year. The fact that Bonzi is looking for a fat contract means that he's going to play hard night in and out to get good numbers so he can get a good contract next year. I'm glad he's in a contract year. Lets focuse on this year as opposed to worrying about nextyear.
I don't blame him for being upset that he had just lost $38. But if you accept the $2,I expect you to show up. I know it is old school.
