Man this guy sure changes minds pretty quick... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6067601.html A day after Tracy McGrady expressed concern about whether he would be ready for the Rockets’ season opener Oct. 29, he was so encouraged by his play in Sunday’s scrimmage-heavy practice that he spoke confidently about playing in the preseason finale Thursday night in Sacramento. “Actually, I felt pretty good today,” McGrady said. “I wanted to really push myself in practice, to start today a push toward the game on Thursday. I came in here, did what I wanted to do, went hard and felt pretty good. “I am (encouraged.) It’s better for my psyche coming out here and knowing I can get up and down and I can do some of the things I had trouble with earlier. Still struggling a little bit defensively, but I’m coming around.” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said McGrady “had a good day today. He practiced. He scrimmaged. He looked good. Offensively, he’s so talented he can get things done. He moved better today.” McGrady said he felt so good that he was going from the practice court to the weight room for another workout. He no longer lifts for his upper body because of his arthritic left shoulder, but said he long has emphasized leg and especially core work, workouts that he said have allowed him to manage his back problems. “Legs, just strengthen my legs,” McGrady said. “I’ve been working on my core my whole career. That’s the reason I’m still able to play. I was only projected to play this game four years. “I have a slight case of scoliosis on my back. That’s the reason I’ve had back problems. That’s the reason I have to strengthen my core.” Home sick Guard Steve Francis, who had hoped to return to practice and go through the full practice for the first time since last February’s knee surgery on Saturday, missed a second consecutive day Sunday with a head cold. Yao Ming, who has also been fighting a cold, practiced and said he was “a little bit better.” “We have a couple days at home,” Yao said.
Good News...T-mac does change his mind alot, but at long as he has alot of cond=fidence in himelf come gametime then its koo with me..
what's new? the problem is some people on this board listen to his words like that of the bible. just judge his performance. stop living and dying by his words.
Tmac lets to say things to get people down and then came back and give an encourage message. It's sign of someone who had up and down with injury.
kind of think T-Mac enjoys getting attention more than anything else. When he says my knees not ready, people listen. When he says he feels more confident, people listen. When he stares into the camera like a pro wrestler and says "it's on me", people listen. I love him and don't question his heart or competitiveness, but I think he's happiest when he's in the spotlight.
I think he's genuinely a little bipolar. Feigen at the Chronicle described him as "typically moody McGrady" once. He's going to have his ups and downs. Hopefully he'll be up when the playoffs roll around.
Man I hope nobody else gets sick on the Rockets. Hopefully Francis can "ISO" the cold and not "pass" it to anyone else.
For real? Yeah, it's true. He does have slight scoliosis. You've got to look back into some old Toronto/Orlando newspapers and stuff, but he was predicted to only play 4-6 years because of it. So, he wasn't really expected to make it big like he did. For those who don't know, scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. Yes, this means T-Mac could've been a couple inches taller possibly. You can imagine the impact on your whole body when you have even a slight bit of scoliosis and you are grinding your body down day in and day out as a profession. Also, back spasms are one of the most painful things a man can go through, and unfortunately, scoliosis doesn't help with those.
just stop talkin TMAC, he's so dumb after all these years in the league and how many times he has said really DUMB stuff to make himself looks stupid. He just flat out needs to shut the f up about his health and just play !!!
Interesting. I have mild scoliosis myself and if a doctor hadn't told me about it, I never would have known. I've always been involved in sports (basketball in particular) and it's never been even a minor issue. Not saying that my basketball experience = that of McGrady. I just didn't know that scoliosis, especially mild cases, would cause problems for athletes.
I didn't know he had scoliosis until last year. Scoliosis is no joke, even a mild case, especially if you are an athlete. I have a friend who has it. It can be crippling at times for some people. Anybody who saw T-Mac squirming in pain on the center of the court a couple of years ago should have at least an idea of how painful it can be. He may not be the toughest guy in the league but to have played this long with scoliosis obviously means he's worked hard and endured a lot of pain. He gets a lot of unfair criticism, mostly because of how the media has come down on him over the years.
I know a girl who had a mild case of it and she wouldn't be able to walk at times. You have been lucky.
Yeah, it's a real interesting thing. My girlfriend has it, and because of it, she couldn't really be as good at some sports (including basketball) as she wanted to be. Also, she gets into a lot of pain randomly sometimes, as that's just how it is. Yeah, depending on the degree of severity, all that jumping and running and any sort of body stress like I'd imagine T-Mac going through day in and day out just has to catch up to you. Also, it's bound to mess with stuff below it, like the knees and such, because of how the human body takes physical stress with a curved spine rather than a straight one.
I can't say it better myself. Like I said, my girlfriend has it and I can tell you that it is a terrible thing, extremely crippling at times. T-Mac is tougher than we think sometimes. I can tell you from my own back problems that those back spasms he endured are extremely tougher than one would think.
