    UPDATE

    http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2006/12/a_little_something_under_the_t.html

    Having a blue Christmas?

Thinking Santa forgot the House of Rockets?

    Needing some good news?

Don't get too excited yet. But we're here to help. Just a little.

Open this present early. Tracy McGrady is getting better. This time, he seems to have turned a corner.

McGrady was not only with the Rockets on Monday's flight, he worked out successfully Monday morning and is expecting to go through shootaround on Tuesday with a decision about playing coming after that.

For the first time since McGrady's injury, Keith Jones (also working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) told me that instead of "doubtful" I should call McGrady "questionable." But before Saturday, he had not been able to work out on consecutive days. On Monday, he made it four in a row.

OK, so that's not much of a gift. And I know this does not change things much. He has not gone through a tough practice, much less a game, much less a back-to-back. He is still day to day -- forever.

But on a tough weekend for the Rockets, it's some glimmer of hope. Hey, it's tough to get the perfect gift on Christmas Eve.

So hang in there. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays.

    Jonathan

Are you guys talking about the back specialist that treated Andy Roddick?

Tired of hearing these "I will be back" stuff from Tracy McGrady.

IMHO, if he tries to rush back just because Yao Ming is down now for the next 2 months..... no rush please.

Surely don't want him to get his back aggravated if he rushes his comeback. Besides, having been sidelined for a full month already, don't think he can be even 10% of the 50% of his old self prior to the back spasms.

If he REALLY can play, then maybe < 10 minutes per game, and gradually step it up but please don't rush him.

We need both of them healthy, if the rest of the Rockets can step up to win games they should win and steal games one or two here and there to maintain the Rockets' win/loss ratio close enough while both Yao Ming and TMAC are down, that when they both return, the Rockets are still not out of reach for the playoff.

Yeah, it's the same one that worked on Roddick.

    ROCKETS NOTES: Staying power

    T-Mac to Waco
Rockets guard Tracy McGrady went to Waco on Thursday to visit an exercise specialist who had success working with tennis player Andy Roddick, who also had back problems.

It is uncertain whether McGrady will rejoin the team in San Antonio, making it doubtful he would play in either game in the Rockets' back-to-back, tonight against the Spurs and Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Andy Roddick went to this guy," Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones said. "It's progressive exercises and stretching. ... He (McGrady) just wanted see if there was anything different."

McGrady reports workout 'not bad, not good'

    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

Tracy McGrady worked out Saturday, the first time he has been able to work out on consecutive days since he suffered back spasms Dec. 9 in Washington.

"It's not bad. It's not good," McGrady said of his back.

He said he felt about as he did Tuesday when he thought he had turned the corner in his rehabilitation.

McGrady said he was considering trying some of the ideas presented to him in a meeting Thursday by a Waco physician who has worked with many athletes, including Andy Roddick and Michael Johnson.

"It was interesting," McGrady said. "He had some technology I had never seen before.

"I'm good. At times I get really frustrated because I want to play so bad, but there's nothing I can do."

McGrady said he did not know if he would go on the next road trip, which includes games with the Pacers on Tuesday and the Nets on Wednesday.

Coach Jeff Van Gundy said the Rockets' results on the court do not influence whether McGrady plays.

"It's not about being cautious or not cautious," he said. "If the guy is able to play, he plays. If he's not able to play, he doesn't play. It's not that we're going to risk him. He can't play right now. He's trying to search out any way he can help himself. Everybody is trying to get the same goal accomplished, that his back feels better."

I don't know why he would make up something like that to get out of playing...I don't think he's lazy (if that's what you mean).

I know he has reasons - his back problem is chronic and it will never be fully healed (contrary to what he said in the beginning of the seaon, "it's all over man"). He can't just tell everyone the truth about his back, which leaves him not much choice but to give us excuses or fake good news.

Oh no that was just a pure question because a lot of people are tired of hearing the "I'm fine/I'm getting better/I'll be back soon" comments with no action (myself included) that sometimes they take it for granted he's trying. Or they don't even know he is because they can't SEE him trying. It's natural, I guess because sometimes I feel it too.

So that question should have been phrased: "Do you guys really think he didn't mean that?"

    Sorry that was my mistake.

You won't have to worry about it for long, most of comments fromt he last year sound like those of a guy who doesn't want to be doing this much longer.

didnt IC2000 say tmac was most likely for the game against indiana? I pray he goes on the road trip and comes back healthy and at full force. its always a shame to see any talent reduced to nothing because of chronic injuries, i dont care what team they are on.
