Do any of yall think it matters a lot if they get home court advantage for the first round? Here's the link
What do you think my answer will be? YES !!!! Very important. It is why I get so upset when the team loses to the Celtics, Trailblazers or Nuggets at home...those games are just as important as the ones against the Spurs they count the same in the standings. I have been harping on getting homecourt all year.....you know why? Because, Only once in NBA history has a team won the championship without homecourt advantage in any playoff round.... The Rockets NEED homecourt, or it is probably one and one again, and that is unacceptable for a team with Yao and Tmac and good role players. DD
yeah, I agree. But I got confused when you started this thread no less than 10 days ago http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=125844 about giving up on homecourt, conceeding the 4th seed to expand the rotation and get VSpan more minutes. Now since we agree that homecourt is much more important than temporarily expanding the rotation, I can safely say I'm glad you are not the coach.
Not that I disagree with you, because I whole-heartedly do except for the bolded part. I disagree because if we didn't have injuries to Yao, that resulted in him missing half the season, and McGrady, we would be at least be fighting San Antonio for the third seed. I can only hope that next season we are healthy for a full season so we can see what this team (as it is currently constructed) can really achieve, because I believe we could have easily have a record better than San Antonio if we had been healthy for the full season.
Even if we get homecourt, it will only be against one team. It's important, but I feel that the benefits in developing our bench outweights that of getting homecourt in the first round only.
The Rockets former and current are a good road team and will have to win on the road in the playoffs no matter if it is the 1st or last round to win a championship. The clutch city champs know it takes road wins to close out a series. I think we all agree that the Rockets would win at least 1 of the 4 games in Utah. The homecourt is important for game 7 only.
He said that because 10 days ago getting the 4th seed seemed almost impossible...but the Jazz's 4 game losing streak has made it very possible now
Huh? Read the thread you skin flinted NON CONTRIBUTOR - I said it was NOT about V-Span at all...but about getting others more time....WHICH has happened by the way with Snyder.... I fail to see why people think expanding the rotation a smidge means more losses as it clearly hasn't. DD - Right again...PWNAGE !
I think what matters is that they fight tooth and nail for every advantage they can get in the playoffs and not just let it slip by them so easily. In principle though... the team should be ready to play any team anytime anywhere.
I actually tried reading the other thread cause I never really read that pile of manure cause most of the posts were produced by the self appointed Lieutenant Rocket In Command...I just couldn't stomach it, I kept muttering to myself "what a self absorbed dweeb" to the Lieutenant's posts. this nugget was funny though
We will blow out the Jazzs. So if we haven't home count advantage, we can cheer for the win in Toyota Center.
Has some faith, man. The only team won the championship without homecourt advantage in any playoff round is ROCKETS. So it happened. now YAO_MAC face the similarity. They need grow in play-off rather than in regular seaon. They can make another miracle.
You are just a hater, once you learn to become a DD follower all will be revealed, and you will become at one with the Rockets universe. Come over to the light, learn about the game...become a DD disiple...anger leads to hate, hate leads to..... DD PS. Stop being so obtuse, if you don't want to talk about the Rocket with fellow Rocket fans, what the heck are you here for?
bravo. how dare someone make fun of you for posting a million times a day. but its ok for you to point out in BOLD CAPS that someone has not given money to this site. for instance "me" some people are short on money but do there best.
HP does more than make fun he comes in here takes it out of context and riles up the haters, then runs. I did not point you out peleincubus, I pointed out HeyPartner as someone with nearly 16,000 posts and has not contributed. By the way for the record...BOLD CAPS does not look like that....BOLD CAPS is what it looks like. So, don't worry, it wasn't about you, it was about HP who stalks and then pokes with an out of context post, which then riles up all the Haters who come in and post silly pictures, not realizing that the context of the post was completely off base. Everyone has their reasons for contributing or not, HP has his...maybe he will explain it one day, maybe it is all about a light blue hat.... DD
Yes, but not as much as Feigen or DaDa would have you believe. Feigen's statistics on winning in the first round appears to be for all seedings. A better statistic (but one that is probably too small) would be limited to the games between 4th and 5th seeds, where the regular season successes of the two teams are almost equal. It doesn't matter that a 1st seed almost always blows an 8th seed out. This is a more or less spurious statistic. The same is true of DaDa's statistic that only 1 team has ever won a championship without ever having homecourt. If we do beat out Utah, that will only win us homecourt in the first round. Statistics about championships are irrelevant in our games against Utah. And, once we beat Utah, our homecourt advantage against them will be irrelevant to our championship aspirations. It's a pointless stat. Incidentally, whether we move ahead of Utah or not, we might still get homecourt advantage in the Finals, if we have a better record than the EC Champ. To this end, and for our chances against Utah, it is good to have the best possible record. But, we are in no way doomed if we don't get it.
Wow, I get a little misty-eyed when someone can actually allude to the spurious regression problem in-context. Well done. You are absolutely right. Teams don't win playoff series BECAUSE they have home court advantage, they win because they are the better team. It's just that the better team usually won more games in the regular season and got seeded higher. JVG is right on that the focus of the team for the rest of the regular season needs to be getting better and getting sharp for the playoffs. I've heard that Vegas odds-makers usually give about a 3 point advantage to a home team. Home court "advantage" only even means anything if the series goes 5 or 7 games and even then, we're talking about a 3 point adavantage over the whole series. It's not much. When the playoffs start, everyone is 0-0. By the way... who WAS that team that won it all without home court?
